We where on US31 headed south just north of Plymouth at mile marker 228 when a friend of mine asked me what was the name of the race track on the east side of the highway. You definitely can tell that it was a race track. I've passed it a million times but never inquired about the place. Was it the original Plymouth speedway? Does anyone know any history about the place??

Old timers gather at Plymouth Speedway
Monday, 20 August 2007

PLYMOUTH — The Plymouth Speedway has been a staple on the south side of town since the mid 1950s. Hundreds of drivers have thrilled the fans who have ventured to the 3/8 mile track located off old U.S. 31.
For many of these drivers, once their racing days are over, they rarely make a visit back to the track where they put in countless hours to win their next race. At Plymouth Speedway, this is all changed, as the track held its second annual Old Timers Night on Aug. 11.
This year’s edition drew more than 70 former drivers, car owners and mechanics from the 1950s to the 1980s. The event was promoted by long time racing enthusiast Ron Verash from South Bend. Verash has held Old Timers events at South Bend, New Paris and the M-40 Speedways

Thanks for the info Lloyd. This track looked like it was a dirt track and located right on US31. There is a house on it now but some of the light poles are still up. The Plymouth Speedway (as it sits today) is a paved track and I have seen some real good races there when my dad and brother raced there in a winged sprint car whith S.O.D but the track I'm talking about has been closed for as long as I can remember. I have never been to an old timers deal before but I think I'll to try to get to the Jungle Park get together this year it sounds like a great place to get a history lesson.
