From the Box Office to the Grandstands

from MichiganCircleTrack.com

Here is some interesting information which trickled out of Hollywood over the last couple of weeks.

The January 2009 Box Office report states that the movie industry is reporting their biggest January.. EVER !

In a widely reported "bad economy", it appears that people have not stopped spending, but rather are changing the way mete out their precious dollars.

The trend signifies that people are spending their entertainment dollars at a local level instead other venues that require extensive cost and travel time.

Is this good news for the local short tracks across America ??

An interesting read. I like the last line "Let it also serve as a reminder to keep the shows lively, inventive, fun and [B]affordable. I would also reminder promoters and track operators to KEEP THE SHOW MOVING SO PARENTS WITH KIDS CAN SEE MORE THAN QUALIFYING AND HEAT RACES. Make them want to come back not drive them away.

Promoters I talked to said, a fan my like Nascrap, but can't afford to go. Instead he'll spend his money on a local show. Most of them agree on this. We'll see.

As for speeding up the show, promoters ask yourself this question? Will those few extra hotdogs be equal to the people who won't come back to your show next week. Speed it up.

Just for a little bit of anecdotal evidence, I saw Gran Torino today at the Edwardsville, IL movieplex, and both the parking lot and theatres were packed.

I can remember a while back on a show reporting about the bad economy and in a speed sport issue some Chris Economaki comments that during the middle and waning stages of the depression that two venues of entertainment were booming at that time: Movie theaters and local racing events. Be nice if history could repeat itself.
