Sixty years ago, Lone Star JR won the USAC Sprint Car Championship, and I have put together a few events this year to celebrate his accomplishments. Johnny is a fan favorite because of his cool attitude and the way he has been a true ambassador of the sport.
As the USAC sprints kick off the month of May please add these events to your schedule.
May 8th USAC RaceAid benefit featuring an evening with Johnny Rutherford. Tickets are available at USACracing.com. USAC Offices in Speedway from 7-9pm.
May 30th National Sprint Car Hall of Fame and Museum Racers Roundtable 1-3pm Free to the Public. (USAC Sprints Corn Belt Clash Night #1)
May 31st National Sprint Car Hall of Fame Induction Ceremonies Special Guest. Johnny was inducted in the Class of 1995 and will be returning for the first time. Tickets are available at 800-874-4488. (USAC Sprints Corn Belt Clash Night #2)
April 15th – August 11th A Special Johnny Rutherford exhibit at the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame and Museum featuring his 1965 Championship winning car and the infamous 1966 car Johnny piloted as he flew out of Eldora Speedway. Also on display are other items related to Rutherford’s sprint car career, including the boots he wore! As an added bonus, the new Manzanita Exhibit just opened as well.
Tonight at the USAC office Pat Sullivan will be interviewing Johnny about his career and me about my new book, The Miller Grill. Tickets available at the door, $20 donation to RaceAid.
