I am in the planning stages of my Christmas present this year which is a trip to part of the Indiana Midget week. My question is regarding Montpellier Speedway. How large is the stands? Can you purchase reserved tickets ahead of time? Currently, I am planning on doing my traveling to Indiana on this Tuesday and will not be able to get to the track until about race time. Will this be an issue?
Also, is there anything of interest between Montpellier and Gas City that I should do on the Wednesday. I am pretty sure sleeping is going to be high on the list of things to do, but is there anything else I should do?
Jon, there are about 9 or 10 sets of stands the length of the front stretch; the last two in Turn One are behind the pit fence and the set directly in front of the press box is "family friendly" (no beer). They're all about ten rows high with one or two dedicated walkways in each set, so they're easier to navigate than Gas City's stands. I know they don't sell reserved seats during the regular season and I don't think they do for IMW or the USAC Sprint Car shows either, so best to get there early, although the views aren't bad lower down.
Not a lot going on in that part of the state as far as things to do go, unless I just haven't found them yet...
Made a last minute decision to go there for midget week last year. Got there pretty late. Agree with the others, even down low there is still plenty of visibility. When I got there last year they were already qualifying but finding a seat lower down was no problem. Didn't even bother searching anywhere else. Just plopped down about the second or third row up and enjoyed.
thanks for all of the help. I am feeling more confident that I will be good for the first night after traveling all day.
Next question. How bad is the stands at Gas City? I know that they have been a topic on this board numerous times. How early do you need to be at Gas City for a seat?
As far as timing and seats, my best answer is always come early and hang w/ “strangers” in the parking lot. One year might be full at 3pm and the next decent seats still at 5pm?!! Like others have said, GC does have a pretty awkward seat/footing area so check em over and bring an extra pad or blanket!

The stands at Gas City are not the most comfortable, but the sight lines are good. I have never had trouble getting a seat. I usually sit towards turn one. It gives a good view of the cars pitching it into turn one. I hardly ever go in before hot laps.
I must have been to some really crappy racetracks in my day because I see no problems with the stands at Gas City. I have arrived at the track between 6 & 7 during Sprint week and I have gotten a good seat two-thirds of the way up towards turn one. I know there were some blanket issues year before last.... and everyone would like to see grandstands like Lawrenceburg, back stretch at Kokomo, or Tri-State, but it is a fine dirt track with great action and ok seats!
