The Midwest Midget Series will be running as a non sanctioned regional midget series for the 2016 season. Our main focus is to attract the smaller budget teams and allow a mix of cars around the Indiana who can't compete at the National level midget races.

Rules will be simple just run what you bring. The following car types will be allowed to run midgets, lightning sprints and TQs.

We are also seeking sponsors including the title sponsor for the series. No sponsors is too big or small. Sponsors will get mentioned by track announcers as well as placed on the Series Facebook and Web Page.

Track promoters who would like to have midgets running at their tracks this is a great opportunity for your tracks. For around the same purse for most of your weekly stock car classes you could have us at your track.

There will also not be a membership fee for this series. Instead we will be having a $10 pill draw fee at each race. This money will go to run the series and to provide trophies at the awards banquet.

The 2016 schedule is being put together and will be published in the next couple of weeks.

For additional information please send an email to midwestmidgets@Indy.rr.com or you may send a PM to the series Facebook page

Will there be any restrictions to what the midgets can be? The TQ midgets be much slower than a midget.

Racer

Time have changed and TQ have changed also. Now days a TQ is much closer to a midget in both size and components used. It Wouldn't surprise me if somebody didn't take a TQ and install a Suzuki Haybusa in the darned thing, I understand that the same thing might be happening in the Mini Sprint type cars.

I believe what Jay is attempting to do is introduce the Montpelier Speedway formula for Midget racing into the D2 or I like to think of it as a "Throw Back Midget Division" where the race car is based on engine size, chassis size and weight, and tire size while leaving many more options open to the racer.

Bill,

Your post is very spot on. My goal for the series is allow more options to race midgets. There is a lot of older style midgets that still have a lot of life left in them along with various other midget frame cars using all kinds of motors.

Rules will be very simple there is no tire or motor rules simply come and run what you bring. This series is geared for the non national level midget teams to offer then a place to race.

I believe IMRA, which has evolved into a D2 association, began life as a mixture of TQ's and Mini Sprints, adding the stock automotive powerplants later and phasing out the TQ's. I see no reason why a TQ (especially unbound by rules) couldn't be competitive given the right set of circumstances, much the way a Mini Sprint ended up 3rd in points at Montpelier last year.
But, who in their right mind would put a 'busa in a Mini Sprint?
Stay tuned...
