For Immediate Release: 608-558-7435 Defending Rich Vogler Classic Winner, David Byrne Ready For Return To Lucas Oil Raceway To Defend Title Wisconsin driver ready to kick off Brickyard Speedweeks the same way he did in 2014 Shullsburg, Wisconsin (Tuesday, July 21, 2015): For David Byrne the shining moment of his career came at Lucas Oil Raceway (IN) on July 24th, 2014. The Shullsburg, Wisconsin driver went to victory lane in the prestigious Rich Vogler Classic for the USAC Silver Crown Series after an epic battle with Tanner Swanson that would see Byrne execute a last lap pass of the Tanner Swanson to score his first career victory. By taking the checkered flag, the now 29-year-old driver became the USAC Silver Crown Series’ 100th different winner all-time. Now Byrne will head back to the immaculate 0.686 mile progressively banked paved oval located west of Indianapolis in Brownsburg, Indiana as the defending race winner. Something that he is not taking lightly in the fact that both Tanner Swanson and his brother, 2014 USAC SCS Champion, Kody Swanson, NASCAR Sprint Cup Series veteran, Ryan Newman and many more will all have Byrnes' silver #40 in their sights and Byrne wouldn't have it any other way. "The Rich Vogler Classic is my Race. I’m the defending Race Winner and I will do everything in my power to defend that win." Stated Byrne as he and his Byrne Racing Team prepare for the trip to the Circle City. "Chuy (James Sandberg) our Car Chief has got the car back to my liking after some steering issues and I feel super confident coming off the second place finish at Iowa Speedway. So far in 2015, Byrne is sixth place in the season long point's chase after his season high finish of second at Iowa Speedway on June 20th. Overall he has three top 10 finishes and despite being absent at the last USAC Silver Crown Series race back on July 2nd at Terre Haute Action Track (IN), Byrne is only 22 markers behind Jacob Wilson for the coveted top five position of fifth. Car Owner and Father, Steve Byrne added; " A couple of mechanical issues have held us back this season, but this still could be the best year we have had since making the switch from Karts to open wheel cars. I’m proud of David, Chuy and the whole Byrne Racing Crew. It is really fun to watch things mesh." He stated. In the first point's race of the year at Toledo Speedway (OH) on May 1st, Byrne overcame a steering box issue and would have to manhandle the car for the last half of the Rollie Beale Classic 100 to finish sixth. "That’s the hardest thing I’ve done in a while." Byrne laughed. The following race on the dirt at the Indiana State Fairgrounds on May 21st, it was only his second time ever racing on the clay surface and "A Rookie move on a lap car slid us into the wall," he finished 16th. Two days later was his first trip to LOR since winning the Vogler Classic last July. More steering problems plagued his machine as he finished in eighth. In his last race, at Iowa Speedway on June 20th, Byrne was strong and was fighting for the lead early in the race; heat in the cockpit began to takes its toll at the end of the race though on a very hot and humid day. A Caution with six laps to go relegated the field to a green, white checkered finish. He started fourth on the outside and coming to the white flag, he went to the outside and was forced up to the wall. Paint and dust flew most of the way to the start/finish line, but he kept his foot in the gas and going into turn three on the checkered flag lap, a daring three-wide maneuver propelled him to second spot at the end of the race. Due to the extreme warm weather, Byrne ended the race with minor burns on his leg and wrist. In addition to running in the USAC Silver Crown Series, Byrne also plans on as many races as the schedule allows in his Winged Sprint Car and compete with the USAC Auto Value / Bumper to Bumper Super Sprint Car Series as well as making limited appearances in the USAC King of the Wing Series. For the Rich Vogler Classic, Byrne's familiar silver #40 USAC Silver Crown series machine will carry sponsorship support and decals from Stoops Freightliner/Truck Country as well as Tri-Cor Insurance, Bytec Incorporated, Indy Race Parts, J&D Performance, Simpson Race Products and M.P.H.
