Do the radius rod mounting points on the chassis and axle need to be the same spacing, or can you have say 6" spread on axle and 4.5" on the chassis?

I think you'll get a pretty significant bind if the radius rods aren't parallel, not to mention throwing your caster out of whack...

Uneven length or un-parallel radius rods on the right front change the caster (by rolling the axle) and the amount of axle lead with body roll.

Bad

Even the angle they form in relation to the ground affects the "Squat" of the chassis. The numbers you came up with are extreme but playing with these dimensions can have desirable affects.

Go out and get a piece of 3/4" plywood. Mark all of your possible pick up points on it. Use thin strips of wood for your linkage and sheet metal screws as pivot points. On the axle end between your mount right where the center of the axle would place a pencil, I have spent weekends moving things around. For you puter people they have programs for this but nothing beats life size demos. Change your ride height and see what happens?

U can learn a lot by using DAD's method to understand the effects of monkey motioning with things , I came up with a lighter weight version to model this , use the 4x8 plastic signs most the politicos throw them away after the campaign & use large head roofing nails in place of screws , much quicker to pop in & out , U can drives yourself nuts also exploring all the possibilities in moving sheet around LOLLLLL !!!!!!

I had considered making a scale one for the rear to see the effects of different birdcage split radius rods heights etc. Even string and nails on a piece of board so you can see the arcs of each in relation to each other. I have a drinan chassis which has "odd" pick up points as is, it was a pavement chassis originally.

I think I still have my setup, that I used for a Jacobs ladder profile, when I first started building TQ's, spent a lot of time during the winter trying different attaching points, finally found an over the counter setup, that I could make fit, and work like I wanted it to, that gave me my attaching/pickup locations to weld on the chassis! What kinda started this is I was looking for a extra front axle and all of the ones for other chassis have a different distance between pick up points than my car. Guess I'll have to have one made

Be cheaper to use some aluminium flat bar, and bolt it on the bosses on your chassis, and use it to relocate your points t match the axle you end up with. Just a thought! Bob
