I'm a former speedway writer, columnist and race caller from Sydney Australia, an avid fan of vintage midgets and a 30 year member of the Vintage Speedcar association of New South Wales.
I'm currently writing a book covering the history of the Offy midgets in Australia; those that raced and returned to the US, those that stayed, and those that have since been imported by an ever growing band of enthusiastic collectors in the southern hemisphere. Since the very first Offy brought out by Californian Paul Swedberg in 1939, more than 60 Offies are known to have made the trek to this part of the world, one of which was the red #63 Richardson Offy, a classic early model Kurtis-Kraft raced here and in New Zealand by Billy Mehner, and who with Don Meacham, accompanied the great Bob Tattersall on his annual racing tour 'down under' during our 1967-68 summer season. I'm led to believe Tim Mehner is Billy Mehner's son and sometimes uses this forum. I'm hoping one or more of the regular Forum writers may be able to put me in contact with him. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated Allan Edworthy |

Much obliged Steve...I saw Billy race in Sydney as well as New Zealand. He seemed a very nice guy.
