We also have 32 drivers confirmed to be at the July 4th race in Columbus. This is one of the few non wing races on our schedule this season.

That is what I would call a no brainier type question. Almost all of these racer are biting at the bit to take off their training wheels and show everybody how to really drive a race car, Indiana Style W/O assist.

Make that a nice even 33 drivers. I just signed up a dark horse driver to race an Illinois based race car on the 4th. Money sure does talk.

Dad, How do you like this ? "Extreme Midgets" vs Lightning Sprints, let's vote on it!

that opens it up for any type power and drive train, sometimes I just surprise myself.

I like the name it would separate us from the other types of cars. Think it would also sound better to advertise and promote the series to the younger fan base which is very important to keep the series going for years to come. I'm sure we would have several hundred opinions on the power type and drive train but it could open up larger fields of cars. We would need a way to keep the cars equal somehow.

Bill

I like that name, engines are going to evolve year by year. The problems with most forms of auto racing is they get all tied up with their power plants. Like the 3/4 Midgets and the old Crosley 45, then the 750 Honda. the Sprint Cars and their 265 Chevy motors that date all the way back to 1955, and last but sure not least the Mighty Midgets and their Ford Pinto Esslinger engines or Even the new $60,000.00 Push rod Toyota TRO race motors. When each of these motors came out they were all considered to have revolutionized the auto and racing Industry. Well most of these motors are now all over 40 and 50 year old in their designs. I am a young man when it comes to thinking about racing. I have always wanted the latest and greatest. The problem with most racers is they tend to get into a comfort zone and stick with what they have with minor improvements in engine design as time goes by.. I was just talking to a guy that had bought an new Esslinger Tall head. They straightened the ports out a little to make a better window for the intake charge and are asking a king's Ransom to purchase one from them, and they will only guarantee another 20 or so horsepower. Why would any sane person invest so much time and fortune into a 40 year old engine design.

Bill....this is why I coined the name Division II Midgets...In most sports there are lower divisions of the premier divisions of sports...College ball you have Division I with all the major colleges, then there are Division II schools ....same game, same platform, just down on size or in our case HP. Nascar has what used to be Grand National cars (cup cars today), then Sportsman car (nation wide) again pretty much the same car with lesser HP.... Baseball same thing.

Comes "MINI" sprints which is a sprint car, similar, yes (especially with the wing) but todays cars are basically "CONVERTED" midgets (with or without the wing) that use the same parts per say as the midget except for engine.

So why NOT drop the name "SPRINT" and incorporate midget? We run chain driven UPRIGHT only cars 1000cc and quick change cars, Ford Focus and Chevy Ecotec. A diverse field but yet very equal in speed and performance. One of our differences between most northern or mid western organizations is we do not run wings, were they run both. We the SSMS had issues in the beginning as we where "LIGHTNING" sprints and fans were very confused here in Florida.

Anyway adding the word "MIDGET" will save on confusion. Here in Florida we have the Florida Mini Sprints that are sidewinder micro cars but because they race with 750's, in it's conception back in '91 they chose Mini over Micro. Seems as if in and around the US micros are the 250-270 cars and the 600's are taking the name "MINI" so there is still alot of confusion out there. I am not a big fan of change but sometimes it is inedible.

Just my 2 cents and with 2 cents you can't even buy bubble gum anymore!!
