On March 20, 1955 during the AAA sprint car feature race at the Langhorne Speedway Larry Crockett crashed and was thrown 300 feet from his race car. Sadly he passed away at the Lower Bucks County Hospital at 8:30 that evening. Larry was as tough on the highbanks as he was on the dirt and was the 1954 Rookie Of The Year at Indy.

It was a dark day for racing with even more accidents that day. Bob Slater got upside down during practice in the Columbus Auto Supply Spl. and escaped without injury. Al Keller was not so fortunate. Trying to avoid a spinning Johnny Thomson during the third heat race he clipped Thomson's car. Keller flipped the Traylor Offy and sustained shoulder and severe hand injuries losing a thumb.

Larry was my first racing hero. I attended a race with my Dad he was in at Winchester just a week or two before his accident. Big loss to racing.
