Hello Race Fans
This isn't exactly "Indiana" Open Wheel, but this would still be appropriate knowing the number of Michigan race fans on the forum. Kalamazoo Speedway in Michigan is currently facing a proposed sound ordinance that would severely hinder their ability to operate (82 decibels during the day and 55 after 11pm). I thought it'd be helpful to let all you race fan know what's going on so we can support the track. They already had to post pone the board meeting once due to the large turn out! It may not be an Indiana Dirt Track, but we gotta take what we can get up here in Michigan! ![]() If you want to know more here's a local news story coverage: http://www.woodtv.com/dpp/news/local...01&status=true |

I grew up at Kalamazoo before moving to indy. Anotger track up there got closed by the city due to not obeying the city ordinances. Kalamazoo already obeys a 100 decibel rule, which is hard enough sometimes. There was like 260 people there to support the track, and I expect there will be double that at the next meeting.

It has been a little while since I was at the speedway but it seemed to me to be out away from the city. Has the area built up with subdivisions & homes?

No, it's still away from the city, still a top notch very family friendly facility. The problem with being out there where there's nothing is the sound carries far. The people complaining live within a few miles from the track, which has been there for 64 yrs with no problems. Until people decided to buy a house next to a racetrack, then complain about the noise, it's almost as dumb as living next to a pig farm and complaining about the smell.
