They had about 7 or 8 sprints. Coleman Gullick, Larry Beck, Joss Moffatt, a 2C that I should know but don't. Couldn't hear the announcer this evening. That should please Cecil if this holds true as loud announcing was his main problem as I recall. :wink:O:
1 Wing - Hud Horton according to itsanonwingthing. 8 or 10 UMP mods 3 Winged Mini-Sprints if that's what they're called. Bunch of different breeds of stocks. I'm not that well versed in that area. More cars may well have shown up after I left. Dave and the gang have more to do but the place was standin' tall. Very impressive. Track was smooth as a baby's....um.....stomach. Not a hole or dip or groove that I could see. Of course, that's from the top row of the grandstand. I'm sure plenty of H2O will be applied when they race for real. Impressive number of onlookers in the stands. Hope they return most every week and bring friends. Spotted smith19 (with a sleepy youngun'), itsanonwingthing (with digital camera), Charles Nungester (with stopwatch), Jackslash.com (shooting video), cecil the moleman (with Mayor Cunningham), and many other long time 'Burgers. Planning on USAC at Eldora Saturday so I'll likely miss the Grand Opener, but can't wait to see sprints lapping in anger on the new surface. BTW, for those of you going Saturday, plan on parking behind the main grandstand. Bikers have the fairgrounds midway reserved for a poker run. :checkered: |

Doe's this mean that we cannot camp in the midway area for this Sat. nite? I was planning on coming Fri. if Bloomington rains out. If they run, I am coming early Sat. If we cannot camp in the normal areas where electric is available I may have to reconsider. I saw where Dave said free camping and electric in an earlier post. Thanks for any information.

Marv, could the 2C be Tim Spindler? A Columbus guy, of course.:thumb
Planning on being there. Hope Keith took some footage of you.

If ya'd of asked me at 10am if you'd be able to race on it tonight. Id of said, No friggin way. Pit's a mess, Track had a trench around the bottom. Lots of scrap and stuff around restroom, Fences were being built. Sod laid and grass planted and watered. Rocks the size of your head in the track and soft spots that could have easily rolled and been rough.
By 5pm, She was almost ship shape! Had to be a little dry as it needs packed hard before you can slam the water in it. Got real dusty but the dust was never a problem in the main grandstand. I'd guestimate over a thousand showed up at some point to see the practice, 7 non wingers, 1 winger, about 20 mods, 1 TQ 5 Mini's, 1 Legends, 2 Indiana Superstocks 7-8 Late Models about five street stocks. I had a old Rubic lap timer and timed the NW sprints at 15.00, LM's at 16.20 Mods at 17.5 Street stocks at 19.30 Legend mid 19s Mini's 17.8 Granted, non of these may be the fastest lap of any division as I only timed one car at a time. Id almost guarantee the track is capable of over a second faster in all divisions. The Late Models, WOW! Seen lots of eyebrows raise and great comments on how they were running the track. Someone did a lot of work in the last week, No a ton of work. Thank you! TIm Spindler and Ricky Vaughn were there as well Got to say, the track was way smoother than I expected it to be. I was watching for shock travel and bounce and I seen none of it cept for a little bounce where equiptment enters and exits the track. The entrance and exit never seemed to be issues. Lets hope nobody ever trys to exit durring a race though. The wall never seemed to be a issue, Plenty of room. Im sure it will play a roll in years to come and races to come but 70ft wide corners and 40-50ft wide straights. I've stood on top of Eldora. It's bigger in the turns and if Eldora is 19-20 degrees, Im Mickey Mouse. See you Saturday and tell your friends! Chuck P.S. A lot of us thought the LMs were awesome on the track and a lot of the LM drivers loved it.
