methanol fuel system maintenence?

Hello all, we just purchased our first methanol injected sprint car, and we are not familiar with the weekly maintenence.
Can anyone please provide your weekly maintenence schedule? What do you do every week? Do you always use a top lube? if so what brand? Do you drain the tank every week? The lines? Thanks!! |

:checkered::checkered:clean the bypass with W D or something with lubricut in it , take hose off going into fuel pump and spray some in it . Spray trottle shafts on injection and spray some in injector at the block . Just make sure you get achohol out of lines with bypass , low speed , high speed and main jet . Very inportant for life of parts and clean injector nozzles it builds up white crust and stops up nozzles and eats at metals. I'm bad about not doing it all the time and it gives me some problems sometimes ,good luck with the racing . You can pm me if you have questions .

^ Just about every thing they said.
Clean out your lines every week. Clean your fuel filter(s) and bypasses every week. Take your nozzles out when you get home after a race, and let them sit in CLR (available at any hardware store) WD40 the inside or your hoses when you clean them. DO NOT EVER LUBE ANY THING WITH PETROLEUM JELLY IN AN ALCOHOL BASED FUEL SYSTEM. If the car is new to you, you may want to take the tank off and wash the bladder out with the garden hose. |

My 2 cents worth. I've been running alcohol for over 30 years, the early part was in 2-smokes, so it had an upper lube in it. Since going to a 4-stroke in 1991, I've been using Klotz Uplon upper lube, KL-107. The very first line on the directions says: Eliminates the need to purge the fuel system. I have, on occasion, had problems, and most of the time, was able to track it back to bad fuel. I did, one time last year, ran out of Klotz, and used another brand, and almost instantly had nozzles and filters plugged, thought it was bad fuel, got some fresh, tested it, ck'd OK, put in the "other" upper lube, still the same problem, so I put more filters in, and almost instantly, they stopped up ,and all the while, I had been flushing the system. Finally went back to Klotz, cleaned the system, again, and now, we've only had anything in the nozzles once, since then. Alcohol draws moisture, it's most common use is to dry propane, so ya gotta be careful on the fuel. I used to flush the system as soon as I got home, then that got to be a hassle, so I quit, I usually leave the system wet. Guess that's more than 2 cents, maybe a nickle. Before we get into what's best, and what's not, I want to make it clear, this is what I do, and it works for me. I just pulled the nozzles, after setting for 2 weeks, in this humidity, they were still "wet", the fuel in them smelled good, and they were clear. I usually "flow" them a couple times a year, using my leak-down cker, and compare them to each other, this set is now probably 6-8 years old, and they are still like new, flow wise anyway. And another thing, I have found, that if I shut the engine down with the kill switch, then shut the fuel off, instead of shutting the fuel off, and letting the metering valve and nozzles run dry, this not only helps "startability", but leaves that part of the system, also "wet", and doesn't dry and turn white, just don't leave it set so long, it starts to jell.

Clean the injectors every race. Remove Spark plugs and turn the motor over. Alcohol will eat anything, cylinder walls, injection runners. Spray wd40 in them to keep moisture out. Replace fule filter every few weeks. Lube fule pump before storing racecar. Check bypasses every week. It's not rocket science, but keeping things clean will never hurt your racing program.

One thing we have discovered is that an ultrasonic jewelry cleaner is a must for cleaning injectors thoroughly. Speedway has one cheap, or just look around on the Internet. You'll be amazed at how much dirt comes out first time you use it.

You can go to that trouble, if you want to, but in my opinion, if you use a good upper lube, I'd recommend Klotz, be careful of your fuel, a bad batch will haunt you all season, ck it before you buy it, if your unsure, and you shouldn't have any troubles. I usually just disconnect the line, from the pump, to the barrel valve, open the barrel valve, and blow compressed air thru it, then put in about one ounce of Marvel Mystery oil, and repeat, blow it thru, and you should be good to go. Look back on this thread, and you'll see what some folks do. The white lining you get in the lines, will be there everytime that line is dry, that's why it's my contention, to keep it wet with good fuel, and it's worked for me for many, many years. Buying and getting good fuel doesn't hurt, either. Bob

After every race pump all of the fuel out of the tail tank. unhook the the fuel lines and flow them out.. put the fuel shut off at approx 1//4 to 1/2 fuel flow and put pickle juice in the lines and blow it through the system.. take the bypasses apart each and every week and give them a good solid cleaning.. be sure to put pickle juice in the fule pump and turn it with an allen to move the pickle juice through the pump... MOST IMPORTANT OF ALL ONCE FINISHED CAP ALL LINES!!!!
