Russ Hankins Memorial Thurs. 6/28 at Rush Co. Fair

The Midwest TQ Racing League presented by Jenmarco.com will hold the Russ Hankins Memorial on Thursday June 28th at the Rush County Fairgrounds in Rushville, Ind.

Hankins, a lifelong Rush County resident who passed away in November 2010, began racing in 1952. In the mid 1950’s he drove a Harley Davidson powered three-quarter midget and won several championships including both the Mid-West Racing Association and Mutual TQ Racing Association championships in 1959.

After Russ’ driving career ended his passion for racing never waned. He joined with several others from the Rushville area and started the Rushville Vintage and Modern Race Car Benefit Show. That same year the Injured Drivers Fund was also started.

The Hankins family is still actively involved in three-quarter midget racing. Grandsons Brett (#14) and Chad (#71) drive cars numbered in honor of their grandfather.

Practice for the Russ Hankins Memorial is scheduled for 6:00 pm, qualifications at 6:30 pm, and racing is set to begin at 7:30 pm with the Jackson Oil & Solvents Duel for Fuel. Following the Duel will be the Perfect North Slopes heat races and semi feature. The nights racing will conclude with a 25-lap feature.

General admission is $8.00 for adults, $2.00 for children 6-12, and 5 and under are free. Pit passes are $25.00 for all ages.
