A quick update on the PDP (Payne, Delagrange, Paterson) race team.

Our first race was at the new dirt track at Plymouth Speedway. After hitting a spinning car on the first lap of the feature, Jim soldiered on with a bent front axle and shock and managed a seventh place finish.

The next race was the HOSS opener at Baer Field Speedway. I did not have the pavement car done yet, but after a quick conference among the partners, it was decided to support Tony Swanson and the HOSS series. He has done a lot for me over the years, so we decided to take the dirt car even though it was a pavement race.

Since we figured we were taking a feather to a gun fight, we also decided not to buy any tires. We dusted off four tires from last year and headed to the track. Our Maxim dirt car had never even had a wing bolted on it, let alone run pavement.

Jim again lost the coin toss and had to drive (someday he’ll catch on!). Even with a dirt car and four used tires from last year, he still managed to out qualify a few cars. But after a brake failure early in the feature, Jim decided to park it.

Our next race will be the Little 500 where I will be driving. However, at a partner’s meeting at Marty’s Bar in Nye, Ohio (a shameless sponsor plug) I was told if I pull the same stunt in the race that I did last year, I will be replaced with a blind, one legged, neutered orangutan!
