Town of Brownsburg: "Paving the Way to Indy"

“The town of Brownsburg is truly a motorsports community! We are celebrating our rich racing history and our small town's many ties to the Indy 500 in the Indianapolis Motor Speedway's "Back Home Again in Indiana" contest.

The Town’s entry honors the legendary Brownsburg drivers who have raced at the IMS’ famed 2.5-mile oval: Babe Stapp (1927-31, 33, 35-40), Carl Forberg (1951), Pancho Carter (1974-91), Bill Puterbuagh (1975-77), Larry Rice (1978-79), and Joe Saldana (1978-79). The theme “Brownsburg: Paving the Way to Indy” also gives a nod to the many forms of racing represented in our community that help racers make their way up the ladder to compete in the Indianapolis 500 and celebrates the young drivers who dream of someday racing at the Brickyard.

Brownsburg's municipal complex and downtown area are decorated in a racing theme for the month of May and businesses and residents are getting decked out for the Indy 500, too! A very special exhibit in Town Hall features unique Indy 500 memorabilia from the personal collections of the Stapp, Carter, Forberg, Puterbaugh, Rice and Saldana families.

Members of each of those families, their friends and Brownsburg race fans joined Town officials for a community celebration on April 28. Honoring the long-standing traditions of the Indianapolis 500, the event featured a performance of "Back Home Again in Indiana" by local businessman Jeff Binkley, an appearance by 500 Festival Princess Madeline Reith, a ballon launch... and we held our own unique version of the pit stop competition!

Legends Bill Puterbaugh and Joe Saldana along with up-and-coming racers AJ Hopkins, Billy Puterbaugh, Sammy McGhee, and Reece Saldana visited with fans and signed a few autographs!

If chosen as the Back Home Again in Indiana contest winner, the prize money will help local residents and businesses complete community improvement and beautification projects through the Brownsburg Community Matching Grants Fund in the Hendricks County Community Foundation.”
