Lawrenceburg Ramblings

(This is a bit long – will post in 3 parts to make each one smaller)

Part 2

SAFETY VEHICLES

Where will the safety vehicles be staged? There were right at the track edge under the old configuration – now, with wall all the way around – and landscaped infield? Are they to be outside the track?

SCOREBOARD

I have seen nothing mentioned about a scoreboard. Disappointing, with the amount of $$ being spent – that there is not a scoreboard. That was one of the first things that Tony Stewart put in after he bought Eldora.

SAFETY FENCE

It is terrific that the cyclone fence is painted black – the glare from the light on the mesh was terrible under the old configuration. But, why did they not also paint the poles black? Just looking at the pictures in daylight – the silver poles are distracting. I would have liked the poles black also. Maybe for next year’s budget?

STANDS and SIGHTLINES

That new stand in corner 2 is terrific (seat backs!!!) The envy of other tracks. But, from the pictures I have seen, the sight lines are not complete. The walls are so high that they block the sight of what is directly in front of you. Just wonder why the designer did not bring the grade of the corner 1 and 2 up to close to the top of the wall – would have then given great sight lines. But, I guess there are not a lot of tracks that you can see the entirety of the track – this is certainly better than Eldora. (Thank you for no pits in infield).

PARKING

With the addition of the stands in corner 2 – is there enough parking for an additional 500 cars on the fairgrounds for a big show?

TRACK CONFIGURATION

From all the pictures (up until the most recent). The track looks extremely wide in the corners. 4 wide passing? Is this to encourage the local, low budget cars to come to the new speed plant? I just thought that, even with the high elevation in the corners, that it was just too level, and would not lend itself to great racing, now it appears that the dozer is moving the low dirt up the banking. Making it more of a bowl, than a roller derby, I think will be better.

FLOOD

Just my frustration – I do not understand – the Ohio River is at 40 feet – flood stage is 52 feet – and the track is flooded. With all the $$ spent, past years pumps put in, that there is a flood issue at the track, and the river is no where near flood stage. I thought that this year – They were spending $1,000,000. behind the grandstand to help with drainage. Oh well….
