I have been tossing this around and need input from midget and Lightning/mini sprint racer....I am considering allowing the Focus/Ecotec/USAC D1 midget to race together in the non wing winternationals...any yes/no/maybe would be greatly appreciated..Let me know what you race and what factors or concerns...The midget thing is not set in stone, just putting it out there for some feedback...... here is what I have so far
Set weight rules for NW Winternationals I have compared ALL the rules of each Lightning/Mini Sprint Organization in the US and here are the weight rules and a couple of others Uprights 600 - gas=775...meth/ethol/alcohol=810 1000-gas=900...meth/ethol/alcohol=935 1200=1000 F/E/D Midgets= 1075 any tire RR must punch 45 after race micro 600...ASCS2 rules

Wayne make this a lightning Sprint race!! Don't mess with midgets ... just adds cost for push trucks and besides that I think that if a racer wants A midget than he should go race with midgets... our cars are growing and midgets are going away let's keep lightning sprints separate!!!

I agree with Dorsett Racing. Lightning sprint or go buy a midget. The weight rule of 900 on gas and 935 on alchy does not make much sense. Should be at least 970 for Alchohol in my opinion. From what I have seen our new foz car will already be about 915 to 920 with driver and we are on gas. If you do not make it any more weight than that Everyone might as well go out and spend a bunch of money for Alchohol. Everyone continues to complain about expense, but no one will step up and make it a pure stock 1000cc class.
Whats up with that. Mike M 67 |

Alcohol doesn't make me go fast, years of experience and track knowledge is what makes me fast. You notice the people complaining about alcohol are the ones who ride in the back and complain when the track gets slick? Maybe worry more about your setup and driver than why I am better on a slick track than you. |

no midgets for sure there still to fast even with the added weight. i think the weight rules are far the way they are. alcohol makes a difference but not much. you can also get it done cheap like said above you dont have to spend 3 grand. alcohol is all around better choice. in my opinion its way better then fighting a over heating problem

I'm looking foward to this race, hopefully the stars are aligning and we can be there. I say no to midgets. Being my car is gas powered, I hope to make it there without my car bursting into flames. It would make no sense to have a stock class and then be required to convert to alcohol. To say that gasoline has no place in open wheel racing isnt correct. Its funny how my boat anchor 1200 gsxr oil cooled engine is 20 years old runs on gas and can handle the heat and a stock 1000 wouldnt.
Anyhow the post got a bit off the original question, I say make this a Lightning Sprint only event. |

Thanks for all the post guy's this is the input I am looking for ...one thing to keep in mind is I'm NOT going to allow USAC midgets or PowI midgets we are talking about the lesser expensive Focus/EcoTec/D1 midgets and we are talking NON WING....that along will balance the horsepower difference...Bill May and myself have talked and will continue to talk about rules and things to build a pond making the lightning sprints THE ABSOLUTE BEST open wheel racing in the US...Thanks again for your knowledgeable input...Bill and I can use it to build a better platform to race...Wayne Davis

You guys are on the right track. YOU HAVE to let guys run what they have. A thousand bucks to buy injectors might not be a huge expense to some but when your trying to figure out what you have left to sell just to get to Ocala it might as well be a million bucks. A really liked the idea of a stock 1400cc class, I rode a zx1400 a couple weeks back, wow, it's a great power plant. While I'm on line I want you guys to know I have a top & front wing for a lightning sprint that I'd give to a needy racer. I believe the wing is 4x4 and is in real nice shape, comes with all the mounts. Its a old school wing, no fancy in cockpit adjustment or such. I'm just below Binghamton NY. I'd like to get rid of it cause I get sick everytime I look at it. ![]()
