Track took rubber in third heat and was pretty much one lane just off the bottom the rest of the night. Pretty boring show really.

Danny Smith did pass Terry McCarl for the lead and win but McCarl had put on too soft a tire and had to baby it to finish

Chris Windom was fast all night he passed a few cars in feature think he made it up to fifth but rr tire went down with about 6-7 laps to go. In his heat on first two starts he went from back to third on first lap but they were both called back for people spinning. On the start that counted he got boxed in and fell to last but made it back to forth. He had fallen too far behind the leaders to catch them by that time.

Even with the later starting time--which I think was wise--they had plenty of time to re-work the track. But when you have a drastic push truck shortage, and try to put on too much of a production with driver interviews during a weeknight show, well, you saw what happens.

In fairness to Tri City and the Gundakers, we've all seen instances when "stock car" tracks run open wheel shows, and fail to provide enough pushtrucks. POWRI or USAC provides enough support vehicles for the Gold Crown, but MOWA hasn't quite got the support vehicles of those series.

As for MOWA, I know they're trying to promote their series and its drivers, but when you know that (a) it's a weeknight show, and (b) you're starting an hour late, maybe you should just do the dash redraw back in the pits, instead of putting on a 15-20 minute production.

As for the track locking down, it was clear that they put down enough water during the day. But they said on the news today that St. Louis is on track to average it's 5th hottest July since 1901. Sometimes Mother Nature just doesn't want to cooperate.

Also, it's not like feature time track conditions were any better Wed. at Spoon River, and they had a fraction of the car count in the support classes that Tri City had last night. And both tracks had decent racing in the heat races, just look at how many cars Danny Smith has passed the last two nights.
