Pit party is from 3pm to 6pm to those with the Sumar tickets, so I would assume not too long after that.

Would some kind soul please tell a tourist the best way to get the the fairgrounds from Indy (and return). I've been there many times, but I'm worried about the construction detours. Also, does anyone know how early we can go in and put down blankets?

Best way from Indy is I-70. If there is construction back ups, entirely possible, near Exit 11 or sooner, get off and get off at Brazil and get on 42 or 40 and then head to Margaret Drive to 41.

Getting back to Indy. Fair grounds to Davis (where the mall is), turn right. Davis to Fruitridge, turn left on Fruitridge (you will seem like you are driving out to no where, but trust me). Fruitridge to Margaret and turn right. then you will end up at 40/46 and 70 will be on your right. I will try to highlight this route in a map tonight at work.

I both live here locally and travel extensively to races, so here's what I would do, if I didn't know the area well, but knew the current situation.

First off, Davis Avenue is closed right now for construction.

Coming in: Do as you normally would. There are detours that will get you around the construction zones coming in from the East, but they'll leave you just as likely to get railroaded or leave you just as delayed getting through evening city traffic. And the railroad tracks, in this situation, are ones that trains occasionally stop and sit.

Leaving: Going Westward, do as you would normally. Going Eastward, take I-70 West to the Darwin Road exit (less than 5 miles up the road). Go up the ramp, cross back over the Interstate, turn left on to the I-70 East entrance ramp and enter I-70 East and proceed East.

Or you can go to the first intersection North of I-70 on US41. This is Margaret Avenue. Turn right at the Marathon station. This street runs parallel to the Interstate and goes all the way to Hwy 46. Turn right, go under I-70 and you'll see the I-70 East ramp.

Jerry, thanks, I forgot about Davis being closed since I don't go down that area that often.

Hopefully they don't start until atleast 7 pm. They need the time to water that track and with being on eastern time now it stays light longer. Oskaloosa, Iowa doesn't start hot laps until 7:30 and the track is always good and no one complains about it going a little late. Track conditions should be the number one priority especially after what happened there last time. If you can't handle being out till midnight maybe you should stay home Cinderella!

Jerry: If going to Brownstown via 46 should we also take Margaret Ave to Hwy 46 then keep on going?

That would be a good option. Plus, it's a straight shot to 46, without turning a bunch of times.

"A new feature added to the planned night’s activities at Terre Haute will be an open “pit party” for ALL fans to meet drivers, get autographs and purchase shirts direct from the driver trailers. The Pit Party is open to all ticketed admission from 3:00 - 6:00 pm."

The Pit Party is open to "all ticketed admission" according to USAC, not just those with Sumar tickets. Hopefully, they post this in plain view at the ticket booth and put it out in some of their advertising, so everybody knows about it. This was a great move, IMO.
