Exciting pavement midget auto racing returns to North central Illinois in less than two weeks when the new D’Arcy Automobiles Short Track Auto Racing Series (STARS) takes to the 1/3 mile paved oval Grundy County Speedway. The newly formed STARS series comes will a fresh batch of promotions and events that will not only enhance some previous events but will help build on the already rich history of midget auto racing in the Midwest.
The season kicks off on Saturday, June 11 and concludes on Saturday, September 17. Sandwiched in between those dates are some pretty special events including the first ever visit by the USAC National Midget Series to the Morris, Illinois track on July 2. Other big events include the 7th Annual Carter/Anderson Classic on June 25, the Illinois State Championship on August 20, and the 31st running of the Bob Lockard Memorial on September 3. Two new events this year include the Inaugural Bob Tattersall Challenge Weekend, July 29 and 30th, honoring one of the greatest midget and stock car drivers to ever strap on a helmet. The 2-day event will honor the Streator, Illinois native “Two-gun Tattersall” with a stock car event on Friday night and a STARS midget event on Saturday. The D’Arcy Shootout on August 27 will highlight a National midget feature event where the top four finishers from three six car qualifying races and the two fastest qualifiers will compete in the main event. Each night of the 11 race season will have a fun theme, including Ladies Night, Jimmy Buffet Night, Elvis Night, Police and Fire Night, More than 1/3 of the way to St. Patrick’s Day, and 70’s and 80’s night just to name a few. There will be multiple divisions competing at each STARS event all season long. The Illini Racing Series, returns to Grundy for four events and the STARS Classic Modifieds, INEX Legends and the Mini Cup cars will make up the bill at most events as well. Make plans to be in attendance either in the stands or on the track to be a part of the exciting STARS racing season. Visit STARS at stars-racing.com or follow them on Facebook and Twitter. |
