10-RACE USAC SILVER CROWN SLATE FOR 2011
USAC’s 2011 Silver Crown Championship Series will encompass 10 events, five on dirt and five on pavement, with one brand-new venue and one track returning to the series after a six-year hiatus. The new venue is North Wilkesboro (N.C.) Speedway, the 5/8-mile paved oval which hosted NASCAR events from 1949 through 1996. A 100-lap race is on tap on July 23. The Milwaukee Mile returns to the series on June 17-18, with the USAC Silver Crown cars and USAC’s Mopar National Midgets, plus the Mopar .25 Midgets, sharing the weekend schedule with IndyCar in an event sure to be a destination for Midwestern race fans. Wayne Reutimann won the last USAC Silver Crown race at Milwaukee in 2005. Traditional dates include the “Sumar Classic” at the Terre Haute (Ind.) Action Track April 23, the Hoosier Hundred” at the Indiana State Fairgrounds in Indianapolis May 27, the “J.D. Byrider 100” at O’Reilly Raceway Park at Indianapolis July 28, the “Tony Bettenhausen 100” at the Illinois State Fairgrounds in Springfield August 20, the “Ted Horn 100” at the DuQuoin (Ill.) State Fairgrounds September and the “4-Crown Nationals” at the Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio September 24. At those events and in between, race fans will witness some of the greatest dirt-track action in America. This year’s National series will mark the first time since 1987 that all events will be conducted on dirt surfaces, with pavement events separated into their own championship series for 2011. Ocala (Fla.) Speedway hosts the “Bubba Army Sprint Nationals” openers February 17-18-19 on the three nights prior to Sunday’s running of the Daytona 500. The “Budweiser Oval Nationals” at Perris (Calif.) Auto Speedway currently occupy the season-ending slate November 3-4-5. Highlights of the 2011 campaign include the “Eastern Storm” races May 30 through June 4 and “Indiana Sprint Week” events July 8 through 16, plus a number of other “tradition-rich” events. The Midwestern slate debuts with back-to-back races at Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio April 8-9, while new venues are also part of the 2011 scheduling. Lernerville Speedway in Sarver, Pa. joins the “Eastern Storm” for the first time with a May 30 opener, while Dodge City (Kansas) Raceway Park hosts its inaugural USAC Sprint races August 12-13. The “Tony Hulman Classic” at the Terre Haute (Ind.) Action Track is May 26, while Iowa tracks at Knoxville and Oskaloosa again host races August 7 and 9. The April 29-30 races at Dodge City mark USAC’s first National events at the 3/8-mile banked clay oval. Once again, the series is scheduled to conclude with the 71st “Turkey Night Grand Prix” at Toyota Speedway at Irwindale, Calif. on Thanksgiving Night, November 24. “Indiana Midget Week,” as always, is a highlight of the schedule, with five races from June 8-12 at Hoosier dirt venues. The Milwaukee Mile returns to the schedule June 17-18 as the USAC Silver Crown cars and Mopar .25 Midgets share the billing in an event held in concert with IndyCar. The series’ fastest track, Iowa Speedway in Newton, Iowa, also returns with a June 24 program also featuring the Silver Crown cars. The popular “Hut Hundred” once again unfolds May 21 at Tri-State Speedway in Haubstadt, Ind., the “Night Before the 500” is scheduled May 28 at O’Reilly Raceway Park at Indianapolis, Angell Park Speedway in Sun Prairie, Wisc. hosts the “Hall of Fame” and Pepsi Nationals” classics in August and September and the “4-Crown Nationals” is set for Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio September 24. Tri-City Speedway in Pontoon Beach, Ill. once again plays host to the “Gold Crown Nationals” in October. New events include a July 23 date at North Wilkesboro (N.C.)
