I am looking to build a Ford Focus Midget and just skimming through the rules before I actually purchase parts and I came across the wheels. The rules say no Direct Mount on the RF does that mean you can run Direct Mount on the LF and the Rear of the car? Also is direct mount better to run then the traditional lug wheels?

Also is there a diagram of how the motor and the rear end come together. Its just really confusing cause using a Focus (FWD) engine and hooking it up to a quick change rear end. Wondering how its done?

Please let me know I am just doing my research before I get into something I dont understand fully!

You do realize a USAC ford focus is a sealed motor..that's the whole point to the series...there was a online engine manual when s.c.r.e.a.m was lic. to sell the motors...i installed one for a friend and if you don't do it as sugested in the manual ..i believe you'll fail...buy a motor kit- or a race ready car for cheap and be done with it..in Ca, race ready car $10000-$11000.... please post a picture of a midget direct mount rear wheel..never heard of one...good luck

Yes I do realize this I just didnt know how the whole FWD Engine hoooked up to the rearend. I also didnt know there was an owners manual to it either. Like I said I am still doing my reasearch. 1 of my questions is anwsered does anybody know anything about the wheels?

sorry as I recall the wheel thing, rt ft ,was on the pavement races ,they had some shatter..I know we ran dirt with a direct mount rt. ft. but that was 2 years ago

you can only run the direct mount on the left front if you intend to run pavement, if you are running dirt only you can run on both fronts, most the cars you will see regardless if they are a pavement or combo car (run on dirt or pavement) will have the direct mount on the left front because it saves weight but the previous poster was correct in saying they had some shatter when ran on the right front.

As was stated the engine is a sealed engine. It is a stock focus with the only real change from a stock engine is a race cam. The clutch and all it parts are stock and can be bought at any auto parts store. A focus car has a large collar (for lack of technical name)that mounts to the motor plate (inside of cockpit) in which the clutch slave cylinder is mounted (outside of cockpit). A special focus u-joint is needed which fits through the collar (through a bearing) into the engine. The torque tube housing is bolted to the collar. The slip yoke portion of the u-joint as well as the driveshaft are standard midget parts so the driveshaft fits into the rearend like any other midget. Hope this helps

So since I am going to run pavement I can only run direct mount on the LF so would I have to run Lug mount on all the other 3 wheels?

Just about everything you need to know is accessable thru this link. Our sealed Focus won a heat race Saturday on its 47th night of racing so they are very reliable if taken care of. There are plenty of good used motor packages and cars for sale. Do yourself a favor and buy a proven, running car and enough wheels/tires & spares to get going. This division is intended to teach people to race. Buying an already assemble car will prove to be cheaper than building plus you'll be racing sooner.
