NEW INDUSTRY SHOW DETAILS EVENT VENUE
Anderson, IN - June 21, 2010 - Officials of the newly created Great American Motorsport Exposition today announced details of the venue, the show will utilize during the inaugural Great American Motorsport Exposition. The Fan Fest / Trade Show / Part Sale is set to debut Thanksgiving weekend Nov. 26-28, 2010 at the Toyota Blue Ribbon Pavilion on the grounds of the Indiana State Fairgrounds. It is only fitting that the show will be held at the Indiana State Fairgrounds as the Fairgrounds carries a rich and storied automobile racing history. Racing at the Indiana State Fairgrounds can be traced back to several years before WWI. Racing events of all types have been contested on the Fairgrounds 1 mile dirt oval as well as the indoor Pepsi Coliseum. In recent years a 1/4 midget track has also been constructed on the grounds. Some of the different forms of motorsport contests include: Midgets, Sprint Cars, Silver Crown Cars, Modifieds, Late Models, Super Speedway Stock Cars, and Motorcycles to name just a few. Winners who have won at the Indiana State Fairgrounds include a variety of automobile race cars and reads like a who's who of racing. The most prestigious of all dirt track races in the state of Indiana is held at the Fairgrounds annually. The Hoosier 100 has been held annually since 1953 at the Fairgrounds and multiple drivers have won the event including: Jimmy Bryan, Jud Larson, Eddie Sachs, A.J.Foyt, Roger Ward, Mario Andretti, Al Unser, Jack Hewitt, Larry Rice, and Gary Bettenhausen to name a few. In addition other drivers who have won at the Fairgrounds in either the Pepsi Coliseum or 1 mile dirt track include: Steve Kinser, Tony Stewart, and Ken Schrader. Several sanctioning bodies that have produced events at the Fairgrounds include: ARCA, WoO, USAC, UMP, and AAA. Great American Motorsport Exposition show founder, Gary Schlafer, expressed his excitement when asked about the Indiana State Fairgrounds. " This may be the perfect venue for our show both logistically and historically " commented Schlafer." There have been so many great drivers and events pass through here over the last 100 years, I just feel honored our show can become a part of the rich history of auto racing tradition here at the Fairgrounds. If there is a form of race car that hasn't been on the grounds, it will be by the conclusion of our show " concluded Schlafer. The Toyota Blue Ribbon Pavilion was completed in August of 1999, the renovated Blue Ribbon Pavilion is a 69,000 square foot multi-purpose exhibit space that can accommodate large consumer shows, agricultural events or banquets for up to 5,000 people. The 6.5 million dollar facility features a concrete floor, heating and air conditioning, a loading dock and multiple overhead doors. Breakout rooms are appealing for seminars or small group meetings. Office space, wheelchair accessible restrooms and an elevator are added conveniences. For additional space, the building can be easily connected to the Champions Pavilion and/or South Pavilion by portable sheltered walkways. Officials have admitted the initial response to the show has been overwhelming and additional buildings on the grounds may need to be utilized as the show nears its November dates.
