Scott Petry Wins UMRA Feature at Kokomo
By Alex Wollf Scott Petry was the winner of a thrilling 20-lap feature for the Dutch Mill Buffet UMRA TQ Midgets on Sunday night at the Kokomo Speedway. Petry started on the pole and led every lap but the fourth win of his UMRA career and first since May 31, 2008 at Twin Cities Raceway Park was not that easy. The driver of the Terry Goff owned #2 had to hold off a lead pack that at one time or another during the feature saw challenges to his top spot come from Terry Goff, Ron Combs, Patrick Wolf, and Brandon Gray. Petry’s great drive nearly came unraveled on the final lap when a bobble in turn two gave Terry Goff one last chance to take the win. However, Petry persevered to give the #2 its second win in a row after Oogie Goff won at Brownstown on May 15. Following Petry to the line was second place Terry Goff, third place Ron Combs, fourth place Brandon Gray, and Patrick Wolf, who came back from a near spin to finish fifth. The eight-lap heats went to Brandon Gray and Jason Goff. Jon Steed swept the contingency awards at Kokomo as by virtue of his tenth place finish he received the $50 from the “Tony Stewart Rookie Challenge” for being the highest finishing rookie. By coming from 17th to 10th he also received five gallons of fuel for being the G&G Oil “Hard Charger of the Race.” The 50th anniversary season of the Dutch Mill Buffet UMRA TQ Midgets continues on June 5 at the Rush County Fairgrounds in Rushville as the TQs will be joined by 600 mini sprints.
