On March 2, 2003 Boston Bob Blair passed away. He was great friend to
me and to many others around the racing world. Bob was a great story
teller and it was pleasure to be his chauffeur on several racing trips
around the midwest. His father was a champion midget driver in New England in the 1940's and Bob was very proud o...f his dad.

For a guy who didn't have a drivers license, he really did got around. Boston Bob was a great racing fan. He really is missed.

Rest in Peace.

.....my first meeting with boston bob was while i was heading out to oswego in the late 60`s to see the classic. I saw this familiar face siting at the toll booth eyeing all that past thru. i didn`t know bob personally but had seen him at norwood and thompson speedways many times. I stopped and asked him if his car had broke down and he smiled and said nope...."just waitin for someone going to ny"....."where you headed?".....we laughed and said jump in!......that was the start of a long friendship.......shared alot of stories with Bob and sure miss his presences........RIP Bob...gone but not forgotten..

I first met Bob at the Gold Cup in Chico, CA. A very friendly, personable guy. He always seemed to make all of the west coast races, as I ran into him at Manzanita, Phoenix, and almost all of the NARC tracks at one point or another.

As others have stated, Bob saw a bunch of races - for a guy who didn't drive. He loved our sport and the folks in it. I seem to remember that he got "trapped" on the West Coast after 9/11 and had to spend a few extra days ib CA. I think he spent the time with Mowerman......

RIP, Bob.....

Chuck, thanks for helping with my memory loss, when Vukie started this thread on Bob I right away remembered the last time I saw Bob was at Manzy but was struggling to remember if it was 2001 or 2002. Bob was one of those people that touched so many peoples lives in auto racing. Like so many other New England racers I know I met Bob through Grinch and his family.

I can't tell you when I met Bob, but it was a long time ago. I ran into him many times during the 70s, as I travelled around the Northeast with the NEMA midgets.

I had a consulting gig in San Francisco in the late 70s. As a result, I was at the opening night of Baylands. After the heats, I headed for some food. I heard, "Hey Dick". Since I knew no one in Fremont CA, I ignored it. It was repeated. Then, I recognized the voice. It was Bob. I went back to his seat with him, and he introduced me to his host, a guy from Sacramento. It was only this past year, at the Kamp SprintWeek date that I realized, in the course of a conversation about Bob, that the "guy from Sacramento" is the guy I've known for the past few years as Mowerman. We live in a small world. :-)

Bob and I and some other friends made a bunch of trips together. The guy you'll see me with most often now was Bob's oldest friend, Henry Graham. He and I travel to the Chili Bowl and SprintWeek every year, plus as many more as possible. When you see Henry this season, ask him about going to Daytona with Bob, when both were in high school, with about $20 between them.

Nanci and I were scheduled to visit Bob in the hospital on our way to visit our daughter one Sunday, when Henry called to tell me that Bob had died that morning. Henry had spent the previous evening with him.

I'm not sure that everyone knows that Bob was part of Don McTavish's crew in the 60s, was at Daytona with him when Don was killed in '69, and never really got over it.

He was another of a long line of great folks that I've met chasing race cars.

Didn't Bob go to the same high school with Don McTavish?
