Heard that with Comcast trying to buy NBC that the plans are to change Versus(a NBC owned channel) into a competitor to ESPN. That may be an opportunity for some of our favorite racing series to land some TV time. ESPN has most of the good properties locked in so they may be looking for things to fill time. Good news for the IRL too.

Versus was already controlled by Comcast before this announcement... Directv and Comcast had a little disagreement about pricing and now I don't get the Versus channel... It is Directv or Dish Network out here in the country... No cable. That is definately not good for the IRL. Oops sorry they don't care if rednecks watch.:2:

As for the comcast turning Versus into another ESPN... it is going to be a few years before they can accomplish that, and that is a big if at best. Just my opinion.

Watched sprint car racing on versus last weekend. ascs race, motosports hour is the name of the show, watched a wingless race on there also back in the sumer some time. They do an decent job with short track racing at least they know it exists.

Just added a DVR to my DirecTV configuration. When I called in the order the lady I talked to said that she had handled a number of cancellations of service due to the Versus deal.

Because of the NHL? "A few."
Because of college football? "A few."
Because of the IRL? "Never heard of it."

Seems a bunch of folks were steamed about missing out on "bull riding". And they were not just from Texas and Oklahoma either.

Whooda thunkit??

BTW, she thinks Versus will be back before too long. For whatever her opinion is worth.

When I saw the story on the news last night about Comcast purchasing controlling interest in NBC my first thought was.. "OH CRAP, NOW I WON'T BE ABLE TO GET NBC ON DIRECTV".

What ever happened to the ANTI MONOPOLY LAWS that kept big business in check in this country? (that was not intended to be political, if the moderator sees it as such, please remove and accept my apology)

---------- Post added at 07:43 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:40 PM ----------

When I called and emailed about the loss of the channel I was very vocal about Indy Car Racing being one of the two things I would miss.

Darnall,

After reading Fishburger's other post, I am interested in hearing what they said to you when you mentioned the Indy Car Racing?

I use to sell/install satellite dishes, way back to c-band and they HAVE to carry networks (local) and the networks HAVE to allow them to do so, believe it or not that was attached to a cable friendly bill. As far as what they gain with NBC, they gain the NFL, NASCAR and quite a few other things plus now have the "power" of being a network, even if that power is less than what it use to be.......
