There was some talk of a couple non-wing 1000cc mini-sprint races for this season, Is this still possible?

I would love to see one of the two series go to non-wing all the time. I am in my 1st year of mini-sprints after not racing for 14 years. Money is tight and had alot to do with my choice to run a mini-sprint, and these cars are very afordable to purchase and run. Except for the wing! 2 top wings cost more than my engine (2007 Honda 1000rr). I broke a spindal the first night out and just about had a tommy-tip-over that would of cost me $400 for a new wing. I can't be the only one with a 1000cc that wants to run non-wing. I wish Bakersfield wasn't almost a 3 hour drive, they have a great non-wing class with plenty of cars.

I have wondered why they dont run nonwing, It would limit the advantage of high dollar motors and reduce cost by not having to buy the wings.

The cars are a blast to run without the roof. We ran in Duquoin in January and February of 07 and it was by far the most competitive and most fun mini-sprint racing I've been involved in. If a nonwing race was held on one of the tracks near here (Lawrenceburg, North Vernon, Gas City, Moler, Osgood, etc...) I would definately dust off the 1000 car I have stored in the corner of the garage that has sat all year and is for sale.

I believe reasons that few (or nobody) has tried to put together races include.
- support from wing companies, parts distributors to the series
- speeds to put up better laps on the bigger tracks- only a few tenths off of non wing 410s at Lawrenceburg
- the safety aspect of absorbing energy in a crash
- there is already a large class of motorcycle powered non wing cars with the two tq series
- from what I understand the local tracks that run non wing sprints like the winged mini sprint as support to show the fans both types of open wheel cars

Maybe motorsportspr, Bill May, or somebodysmam could weigh in as they certainly have more involvement with these cars.

I would love to do it, just not at big tracks like Lawrenceburg or Twin Cities. At Lawrenceburg our car was running low 15 second laps.. not much off from the non-wing cars. A crash with one of these smaller cars with smaller tubing on one of these big tracks could be bad. I would love to do it at one of the smaller tracks, maybe Salem, 35, Moler, or Osgood though.

Yeah I think Salem or 35 would be a blast. They're a handful with the wings, it would be even more without, prolly put on a great show.

Put em on the big tracks! How many motors go poof now? About 3-4 a night

look at the cars that are blowing up too. Probably aren't the best maintained cars. The ones that are running up front usually aren't blowing up

Engines wouldn't be an issue on the big tracks any more then they are now. You have the thing wide open at lawrenceburg pulling 12 thousand rpms now and never letting the engine settle back down. If you had to peddle the car a little bit engine life would grow. And as long as good seats and safety equipment is used I don't see it being more dangerous than running winged cars on the big tracks.

Im a wing guy but i would like to try a few non wing shows at the smaller tracks, but would hate to take that nice wing feeling away at the big tracks
