In terms of earliest 500 raced among living drivers he was the man who was holding the record - Drove for Andy Granatelli in the GRANCOR special - it was reputed to have been actually driven from Chicago to Indy - I asked Donald Davidson and he couldn't say for sure if this was accurate or not - Danny had driven with the Hurricane Hot Rods and had a Hall of Fame career in midgets that lasted for years - his son was also a URA midget champ

I saw Danny run a lap somewhat at speed blindfolded at the old Joliet Stadium at a UARA event some 35 to 40 years ago. Danny and his son George were fixtures with UARA during that time span.
RIP, Danny, and thanks for the memories. |

Danny and his son George both placed quarters on their eyes and were blind folded simutaneously while running opposite directions at the Joliet memorial Stadium. The ironic part of this for me is the fact that they were both in my dad's team cars at the time.
My dad always said he was crazy for allowing this to happen. Now the 2 of them are reunited along with many many of the old greats from the Chicagoland area. Jimmy Anderson |
