Management of Bloomington Speedway is adding a new event to the 2017 racing schedule, the Fall Sprint Car Double on September 22. The racing program will feature non-wing 410 sprint cars in two A-mains, and RaceSaver 305 winged sprint cars also in two main events. To win both features in a division and being pre-entered, a driver will earn $5,000 for the non-wing sprints, and $1,700 for the RaceSavers. But, throw out the usual script, this Friday night of racing action is designed to shake up the system.
There are several key points to remember, including that for this program the track’s tire rule is being waived for the non-wing 410 sprint cars. All other tech and safety rules remain in effect. This event does not award any track points. Also, there will be pre-entry and advance ticket sales opportunities that will benefit crews and fans. Both divisions will run similar programs. Qualifying will be done in groups of up to six cars during hot laps and the fastest qualifier from each group will earn $100 and automatically transfer to the feature. Those who transfer by qualifying will draw for the front starting positions in the first main event. Then, 15-lap qualifying races will be held for the remaining positions. Depending on the number of cars in the pits, there could be 1, 2 or 3 qualifying races. The top finishers in each event will transfer to the feature, again subject to the number of cars. Each A-main will have a 20-car starting field. Additionally, the promoter has the option to add another car or two to the feature. For both divisions, the first feature will be 25 laps and the second will be 30 laps. Points will be awarded based on finishing position in each main event. The finishing order of the first A-main will be completely inverted to start the second A-main. The winner of the first will start last and the last finisher will start on the pole. Important for all competitors, the same right rear tire must be run in both main events and the track’s technical crew will be marking the tires. At the end of the second feature in each division, the cars will be stopped on the frontstretch while the points are compiled and then trophy ceremonies will take place. Point scores of the combined features will determine the overall winner and finishing order. The non-wing sprints will pay $4,000 to win overall, and $300 to start a feature. The RaceSavers will pay $1,200 and $225. For any ties based on the points, the finishing order in the second feature will serve as the tie breaker. The pay schedule for each division is based on the combined points for both features and there is not an additional payout for individual feature finishes. Ticket prices for this event are $20 General Admission and $35 for pit entry. Pre-entries for both divisions are encouraged and with each pre-entry will be the opportunity to buy pit passes in advance at $30 each. Pre-entry is also required for a car to be eligible for the bonus for winning both main events within a division, a $1,000 for non-wing sprint cars and $500 for RaceSaver sprints. General admission tickets ordered in advance will cost $15. Details of pre-entry procedures and advance ticket sales will be provided separately, but the cut-off for both will be midnight September 8. Bloomington Speedway is also planning a special event for the modifieds and super stocks divisions to be held September 29. More information for that event will be released in the near future.

I love this! I wish that more tracks would try things like this, what are the chances of a driver winning both features? If you win the first you have to start in the back of the second, and not to mention all of this on one right rear tire. The chances of this happening are slim, I think a promoter could get insurance on this (Lloyd's of London maybe) and increase the payout if it did happen!! How about $100,000 to win both for NW and $50,000 racesaver???

I'll go way...way out on a limb here (sarcasm). I'll pick the 11P to sweep both 410 nw features. He's got an extra 5 laps to get to the front of feature #2.
When that track slicks off a little, he's one of the best at getting his car to roll around there. Weather you like him, or not. |
