I've always been jealous of Lincoln's bravery to schedule that late February race every year.

You would think that something like that would work in Indiana; but then I picture an imaginary February race at The 'Burg with about 50 IOW die-hards showing up, and everyone else complaining about it at home.

There's something about them Pennsylvanians...

Some of those early races get cancelled due to weather but if they race the crowd is there.

The crowd is there, and bundled up like they are going deer hunting. Sometimes there are snow banks all over the property. But I have also been on my way to track when they canceled due to it being so cold that the track was iced up. That was disappointing.

And if it's an unseasonably warm day, it's one of the biggest crowds of the year. The Grove also used to start early but their Sunday afternoon shows didn't do that well so they moved their opening day back to mid-March which is still about a month earlier than most.

I do think promoters miss the boat a bit by not having bigger shows in the Spring. You don't have to compete with football, or back to school expenses crimping your budget like you do in the fall. Weather is a concern but as was seen when the WoO were at Kokomo in the spring, you can get a big crowd when the weather is decent.
