Tonight at 7 et on Flo the series The Legends of Racing kicks off with the Bettenhausen story. I was fortunate enough to see Gary and Merle both race and see a bit of the famous Gary and Larry show back in the day. Should be a great show. And younger fans might want to check it out to hear about a great racing family that paid a hefty price for success. Either way sounds like fun to me

There's a few already made films out there that they could try to get ahold of too, Maybe add to them if they are willing to spend a little to show them.

The Legend of Stan Bowman was a good one. I believe Mike Thompson made this and owns it.

I'll watch this one on the Bettenhausens as well because on my few visits to IMS Gary B. was the only one hamming it up with fans, Talked to people like he knew em all his life (Some of them he probably did, But not me. he talked about indy mile and Terre Haute and well, My language

Absolutely AMAZING!

However, they left out the 1980 Indy 500 saga that Gary went through. Slowest car in the field, rode the bubble on Bubble Day and came home 3rd.

If I'm not mistaken, that was the last time an engine of the Meyer-Drake-Offy lineage was raced at Indy.

Thanks, A excellent presentation. Stuff I didn't know as well as stuff I did. Learned a lot.

Of note, I know broadcast and film were never as clear as what we have now or even as good as since the late 80s. But I wish somehow many of them clips could be restored to the clarity they were on filming day. It wouldn't surprise me if a digital copy is all that's left of some of the film. But thanks for what we have!

It was outstanding! What a story. I’m going to have to watch it again just to make sure I didn’t miss something. It sure captures the magnitude of what it means to try to win the biggest race in the world, and to, above all else be a race car driver. A side note. Sure glad to see the shots of my buddies, hall of fame photographer’s Crucean and Mahoney!

Watched last night. We could never afford to go to the 500 when I was a kid. Went to time trials. I remember listening to the race in our backyard when Gary almost won for Penske. We were all pulling for him. Robin Miller was real good in program.
