I totally agree with Jerry Shaw! Hit the nail 100% on the head.

I love the Hoosier Hundred and all of its history. Please DO NOT ruin it for us traditionalist.

Please listen Mr promoter, I vote NO for the red flag at lap 51!

Sure these things can be improved but nothings perfect in your life or mine! I beleive that its gonna take all open wheel fans to support these races, lets get there and show our support!!! Red flag at 51 or not, I'll be there for the sights and sounds that I love.

p.s. perfect scenario by mile dirt, lets not judge yet
your first sentence is dead on. (rich history and TRADITION ).red flag?
to me it kinda has a nascrap feel and if i wanted that i would drive 2 hour's east.
i come north to see great racing period.
mile dirts scenario is perfectly right but it occured by racing not somebody upstair's making a decision
i have been to a lot of show's at the mile and love the big car's, but what a country, i can choose to go elsewhere if i like and hey you never know i might change my mind again in the next few week's!
when they head off to eldora i'll be there might not be able to see them but i'll be there:2:

Silver crown racing is about the drivers, cars and crews making the right choices. The drivers have to make sure to manage there race and make sure not to use up there tires to early and to keep a pace to stay in touch with the front to have a shot at the win. They also have to keep there focus for a longer race WITH OUT A STOP!.
The crews have to make the right choice on tires, How much fuel is needed to go the distance and make the proper calls on the set up and adjustments needed to keep there car the best for a 100 miles WITH OUT A STOP!.
The car has to be ready to go the 100 miles with out a mechanical problem WITH OUT A STOP!.
Throwing a red at lap 51 take most all of what silver crown racing is about and pitches it right out the window. Fuel is no longer a question, tires are not a question, Driver gets a break to rest and recover. Focus and maybe physical conditioning are not such a factor anymore. crews can make changes and repairs so there car will go the other 49 laps. And perhaps the only looser on the deal are the guys who have fought to stay up front. Do they change a tire and go to the rear in hope of being able to make up the track position they have just givin up? Hell you wanna make it interesting? Throw a napcar debris caution on lap 51 and have the whole field invert?
It's about the driver, car and crew going a 100 miles WITH OUT A STOP!.

Chuy

Sounds like a great idea. I hope it finally ends the Silver Crown series by driving away the last few fans it has.

I agree with Chuy - he hits the nail on the head!!
I don't want to see a 51 lap parade to the 49 lap dash. Or 2 50 lap dashes. That takes away the chance of a NEW 100 mile race record. Also an "Overall" winner is just crap!
If you want more people in the stands, try some marketing... on both sides, USAC and Promoter. Doesn't USAC have a marketing dept anymore?? Track Enterprises could stand to step up a bit more too. How about some spots during Wind Tunnel on local cable channels. If people don't know, they can't show.
Adding modifieds to the program is okay, but it should be timed race. This way the show can stay on time.
The most important thing is keeping the show on time. Look at the almanac and look for what time the sun sets.... that way we don't have a sun safety issue.
OR how about moving the race back to the weekend after Labor day... run it Saturday afternoon... and then run the HUT 100 on Sunday afternoon.... now that would be back to TRADITION!

The only permanent thing is change itself. The race could be more interesting with the red flag options. Mods, as long as they keep the show moving O.K. I'll be there, and looking forward to it!!!

I'm not at all in favor of the format change. That having been said, the changes can save the race from being dropped from the Silver Crown schedule then I can live with it.

One of my favorite Smokey Yunick quotes concerns Silver Crown cars. I must paraphrase because I can't find the article now but he basically said the Silver Crown Series represent the last true racing in America. You fill 'em with fuel, put the tires on you think will be fast at the end and line 'em up and run 'em 100 miles, no pit stops or tire changes if you want to win, just 100 miles to see whose fastest. I couldn't agree more.

Even though I don't like the change for this years Hoosier 100 I WILL be in the stands!! We have to support these beautiful cars being raced at some beautiful venues and maybe somewhere along the line they will figure out how to incorporate more passing into the racing.

More passing could happen if the track didn't rubber up after hot laps....I mean I know the issues with the indiana state fairgrounds but what about Du Quoin and Sprinfield??? I love going to Du Quoin and will be there regardless this year but to me it just stinks that they are stopping at 51 in any of these 100 mile races...Thats the whole point of the big tanks lol

I LOVE watching these cars and someday my dream for my racing career is to race on the miles in a crown car! But man I hope they keep some of the tradition that needs to be kept.

I know someone suggested that they put the smaller tires back on....I honestly would rather see them try that before they pull the at 51... I just hope the SC racing picks back up again and gets the car counts up....

See everyone at Du Quoin!

So after talking with Bob and thinking about this here is the deal

Bob Sargent is probally the last promoter in line to keep the Hoosier 100 ALIVE!!
Other groups have tried and have lost money
SO Bob has come up with this idea to add excitment to the Hoosier 100

Modifieds will be running that night which should help make the track wider and better for the SIlver Crown cars.

Bob understands tradition but also knows something needs to be changed to make this more exciting for the fans in the stands.

USAC Silver Crown car owners had even agreed to run heat races at the Hoosier 100. Bob shot that down.

Bob feels that the number of red flags in the past Hoosier 100 didn't upset the fans as it was a part of the action of the night.

So if a red comes out after lap 35 that will count as the lap 51 red flag.

If the race gets to lap 51 and the red flag waves it will be for only 5 to 10 minutes at the most. Bob wants it to be only 5 minutes long.

In this 5 minutes the fans can get a drink and popcorn, talk to their neighbor sitting next to them and get caught up on the race by the announcer. [normally you can't hear while the race is on].

What's bad about that?

As many have been to my various Racin'-Fest and we have tried different stuff. Kokomo a 50 lap feature with a red at 40 then double file restart. Putnamville a yellow at lap 25 of 30. Kokomo midgets with passing points, etc, etc.

Most fans liked those changes at those races, so what is different?

Why not try something different, it gets the fans talking, draws intrest to the Hoosier 100 and fixes what normally is a race that somebody leads all 100 laps.

How much talk has this caused?

In past years how much did you talk about this event this far ahead of the race date??

Bottom line is if change doesn't fix this event and fans don't come, this will in all probality could be the last of the 1 mile events.

Bob Sargent will be on the Racin' with DO show May 10th. Come talk with him or send me your questions.
