With such a short time to put this all together,I cannot see this being anything but a disaster.Anything smaller than a quarter mile track, forget it.I was at Speedway during practice and so nothing even resembling a race track where it is supposed to be.If someone knows actual facts, please let the forum know.Until then, all of this is conjecture.I think having a race at the Speedway for the sake of having a race at the Speedway,is major mistake.Even with Gas City grandstands being horribly uncomfortable and small,I think it would be much better option.Next year, possibly.Time frame way too small for this year.
They have almost 2 months to lay a track in; it doesn't take that long to put down the track in Tulsa, and there's no way they could touch that real estate until after the 500. They barely have the trash picked up. I don't see any reason for the doom & gloom.
On a side note, I walked up to Doug Boles at Montpelier, shook his hand and said "Heck of a show Sunday." He replied "Thanks, but this is way more fun for me." Seems like a heck of a guy, who understands the grassroots part of the sport. I didn't ask him anything about the Sprint Week deal, figured I'd let him just enjoy his evening at the track in a T-shirt and bluejeans but if anybody can put something like this together I'd put my money on him.

Fact: It's on the back of the T-Shirt as the opener of Sprint Week
So it is the plan to run this race there. It does not mean that it could not fall through for some reason in the last hour. It isn't official until it's official, but it is the plan.

Yes. That in itself, being announced, would be nice.
Correct me if I am viewing this as such, but I don't think the fans here on IOW are complaining about it as much as we are skeptical about it. There are many tracks for USAC to choose from. This idea of IMS, although grand, might be a little too much to undertake.
No announcements yet. For us fans, where will we park? What grandstands will be used? Will the track be far away in the infield from the Turn 3 stands (if used)? What type of track? 1/4 mile? 3/8 mile? Banking? Where is the clay coming from and will it dust off easily? Who will prep the track - A local track crew like Kokomo or Bloomington or IMS themselves?
For an event this relevant as far as USAC goes, and I do not know what is more relevant than Indiana Sprint Week, this is being handled poorly right now. But it will all play out one way or another. Good to chat about.
