I think they got mad a couple of years ago when me, and a light bulb repairman from Rockford IL hot lapped the track one night in the Bell Helmet van. |

One thing you have to remember is most silvercrown car owners are of a older generation and are pretty set in there ways any changes to what they are use to aint gonna fly. There are plenty of cars out there sitting in garages but most of those owners are like if I cant take what I have and run it like I have for years im not gonna mess with it. Its easier to go play golf and its not going to cost me as much.

This is one of the longer threads on here, and when it comes to USAC on here Kevin Miller finds a way to make a statement. Seems like he doesn't have much to say, does it.

Can we look back in hindsight and say that the change to Gold Crown was good for the series? No, it nearly killed the series then. So what happened? A few short years after the big "change", NASCAR discontinued their support for the concept. All of the owners who were more than happy to "change" ended up getting the shaft along with an over-sized boat anchor. Money well spent? Who lost? I'll tell you who lost -- owners who blindly believe that all change is good and spent their hard-earned dollars on a pipedream. Does anyone really believe that the ethanol sponsor will be with the series for the next 10 or 20 years? Not me! I would be interested to see the contract that USAC signed, and to see how many years the contract is extended through. Unfortunately, I doubt the Club will be disclosing this information. Agreeing to change has nothing to do with your age or your attitude. It comes down to whether or not you believe the change makes good business sense for the long-term. P.S., I'm not on the golf course. I changed -- to a different racing series. There will always be racing of some form, and many series are more than anxious to sign-up teams. Hopefully the "powers that be" at USAC will re-evaluate their decisions that are myopic in my opinion. |

I've only heard of the one guy that Steve's refering to, and he made a pretty decent living at it if I'm not mistaken.
And, several years ago, he ran a fairly lucrative shoe lace re-tipping operation as well..... |
