Short's car sounded like a lawn mower on the parade laps. Everybody just knew for sure that as soon as the green flew he would be in big trouble. Quite the contrary was the case though, just as soon as Mo waved the green, Short not only held his own, but he was gone, checked out, ran away and hid, gonzo, whatever you want to call it that's just what he was. In the early part of the race it looked like Chad Boespflug could end up being the one that had something for him as he worked his way through the top 5 and was solidly in second. The same for Darland in third. Kyle Cummins was flying through the field early, from his starting spot near the back, but then he leveled off and dropped back a bit. Brent Beauchamp was on the move as well. Then the second half of the race arrived and Robert Ballou, who was hanging around in 8th or 9th place, all of a sudden caught fire. He went from going about the same speed as everyone else, to being a rocket ship the was clearly the fastest car on the track. He rifled his way through the rest of the top ten, including Dave Darland, who was in third and Boespflug, who was in the runner up spot. It was surprising how easy he got those two spots, as those guys were both still moving around the track at a high rate of speed. He then set his sites for the leader, but it was too late at that point. There was only one lap left and Short was too far gone to be caught. Another impressive win by Brady Short and a hell of a show put on by The Madman. As is often the case.
Brady was very gracious in victory lane, thanking Robert Ballou and Brian Cripe for rushing over to help his crew get their car back together, so it would be ready to roll out, come feature time. That was the capper on a great night of racing. A fine example of sportsmanship and another of gratitude (and also sportsmanship). It's no accident that these guys are two of the best. Jerry

It is common to leave a plug out when anticipating a slick track. I noticed several cars doing that earlier this year at Paragon.

What a night of racing! I missed the first two heats thanks to a slow pit stop at Arby's in Cloverdale, but I got my money's worth. BTW, I will revert to US41 - I70 for future LPS trips as the I69 -57 - 67 - 231 route has too much two lane driving for my taste. It is 14 miles shorter, but I can set my cruise and enjoy the ride on the four lane. At any rate, I now have the experience of trying the GPS suggested route.

Don't think that was the case this time.

I most wholeheartedly agree!
I missed the first group of hot laps thanks to a police roadblock, from what i'm guessing, was an accident at the bridge construction just to the north of Greencastle on 231. I also was undecided until the last minute but sooo glad I pursued the trip. Especially while on the way, I was rained on at Danville, IL to east of covington then just south of Parkersburg for about 15 miles on 231. So happy to not drive into a rain out and enjoy such an accommodating evenings weather. It was good to see you there Ron.

First of all I would like to Thank Joe Spiker and the rest of the staff for putting on a heck of a show last night!! The weather was looking really ify there for awhile.. Once the cars were on the track the clouds went away and it was a gorgeous night of racing! It was really great seeing a good car count there even though other tracks got cancelled..I had a blast hanging out with family and friends! Huge shout out and major THANK YOU to Joe Spiker and Sean Buckley for letting me shoot some pictures from where I was!! The whole entire Racing Community is like a family to me and I appreciate everything everyone has done for me and my family along with giving me new opportunites, advice and everything else as well....Unfortunately I wont be at the races this upcoming weekend, due to a road trip to Nashville, Tennessee! I wish everyone the best of luck and safe travels to wherever yal will be traveling to.. I hope to see most of yal at Kokomo Speedway in a couple of weeks for the Smackdown!! Congrats to Brady Short and the whole team on last nights feature win also!!
Kasi

It really isn't that common. If you have a valve train problem which short obviously did you can pull the plug to kill that cylinder. Short wins on the slick tracks with 8 all the time no one wants to run on 7 this can also be hard on an engine only running on 7 they have 8 for a reason and need to work in sync for everything to function properly. At paragon I can anticipate a lot of engine problems with mostly low dollar teams that can't afford the high dollar engines of some teams. I'm sure Brady would of rather had 8 cylinders but was still able to pull out the win, maybe that's his secret traction control everyone always talks about.
