TinTops at Lawrenceburg

I have been going to races for over 30 yrs and have been a mechanic for 23 yrs. I went to lawrenceburg for the midgets, sprints, AND the mods! Modifieds have put on some of the best races I've seen this year. I have never personally wrenched on a mod before and used to hate them untill I sat my butt down and actually watched them with an open mind. Hell I even sometimes enjoy the street stocks too! lol Anyways just be glad we live where we do and get to enjoy some dirt in your beverage of choice! Sitting at a dirt track watching yellow flag laps is better than sitting at home doing nothing, so if you dont like all that goes on DO SOMETHING ELSE! You are being like members of a certain political party who thinks if they dont like something then no one else should be able to see it. Get over it it was one race out of how many that night? You could have got in your car and gone home! Ok I am done now, off the soap box and on to Terre Haute!

As a person who has been involved in racing for over 50 years and now who travels 1200 miles one way for ISW; a couple of observations/opinions.

1. There is and should be a difference between a regular show and a "special" event. For many years when USAC came to town there were no support classes. I would submit the use of support classes alongside open wheel specials began with the fledgling WoO and All-Stars.

2. How "special" can something be if it looks like the regular show with a little dressing.

3. If I attend a regular show I expect multiple classes, but not for a special event.

4. All of these classes can co-exist, but do not in all circumstances compliment one another in a positive way.

5. If support classes are a part of a "special" they must be after the special. The fans of support classes should not expect those who make efforts to attend a "special" event to sit through races which occur on a weekly basis.

heck, mediocre racing and worse exists. You may be a bit to easily pleased. Maybe give the modifieds more tire, or less engine. Or run real modifieds.

Ok, everyone saying the modifieds have just as much right to run their race as the sprints, you are 100% correct...BUT, the fans drive this sport, they have to be kept happy above all else, and I think it's clear that most of us were unhappy with the modifieds. The simple solution to these problems: run the mods last. I don't speak for everyone, but I'm willing to bet that a majority of the patrons were there to see sprints and midgets.

I think that the saddest part of all of this is the fact that the story of the night should've been the immaculate drive Alex Bright had in a midget. Instead, we're relegated to arguing over whether or not the mods ruined the night.

I will say this though: at the end of the day, racing is racing. That modified feature was better than any baseball game I've ever watched...

Please don't compare a modified feature to baseball, two totally different ends of the spectrum there.
