But everybody is fired up for Indiana SprintWeek coming to the Burg. Why? because sprintweek is an event...USAC was started Jan 1st 1956, back when the INDY 500 was a part of USAC. Things have changed since then...USAC is still the Major League of Open Wheel Racing, like it or not.
Things look that way from the East Coast, as well. ...at least for us transplanted midwesterners &/or those of us old enough to remember a 15 race National Champ series on dirt
and pavement, or a an Indy winner with it's number embedded in a USAC shield on the nose of a Watson Roadster.
For those of us who can't see USAC run every week at our local track, the "events" are a great idea. The E Coast swing + 2 series at RIR are something I've been hoping would happen for the past 30 years. The car counts were fine with me. They still put on a great show. Hearing the Big Cars rumble around RIR was something I fear'd I'd never experience again. They made the Indy cars look like & bunch of vacuum cleaners that sounded like a covey of 10" chain saws.
Please come east again next year.
PA is potential USAC country. I can drive 1.5-2 hrs N & join 7-10K fans every Fri at Williams Grove or Sat at Lincoln, & see 25-30 winged sprint cars. Double that count during PA Speedweek or when WOO, All Stars or URC tour through to battle the Posse. These are hard core Sprint Car fans & they include the young demo that USAC needs. Sprints & Midgets aren't the hook, though. They see plenty of them locally. Most don't see wingless as that special - just slower. Most don't appreciate the difference it makes for the driver & that's why they see the former USACers on TV on Sunday. I think if a 10-14 car/ 50L Silver Crown show could run one Fri night at the Grove, on the same card with the local 410 winged sprints, the Possefans would realise what's special about USAC & turn out for future USAC events. :usacfan :nonwingfan:
