As it turned out, best thing they could have possibly done, was to rework that track. But, just as soon as they started, the second guessers started coming out of the woodwork. Both at the track and on here. There are people who have the job of making tough decisions, when tough decisions need to be made and there are those who second guess when decisions are made. I'm just glad the people from the second group, never make it into the first one.

Just as soon as the green flag flew in the first B, most everybody knew the right decision had been made. Clayton and Shuman just flew around that place to take the first two transfer spots. Then, the second B came and Brent Beauchamp went to the top self to fly around Chase Stockon for the top spot in that one.

The feature was a very entertaining race, as Jon Stanbrough grabbed the lead and held onto it for most of the race, as Casey Shuman had passed almost half the field, from his 9th or 10th row starting spot. Hunter Schuerenberg and Dave Darland were in tow for the majority of the race, until late when Hunter decided it was time to take what was his. He grabbed the lead and stretched it out some, until Jon came roaring on the last two laps, as everyone knew he would. But he would come up just a half a car length short at the line. As this was happening, Kyle Cummins was probably the fastest car on the track, as he screamed around the top to take third away from Darland.

It was an excellent feature. There was an enormous crowd. And they had a nice set of things lined up, for the pre-race ceremonies. All things that honored Josh Burton very nicely.

I say if you want to second guess a decision that a track makes, you should probably wait until after the feature to do so.

We honestly had people coming to the tower door during the break actually complaining and asking for refunds. I hope the people who left the grounds feel better about themselves after missing that great feature.

I'm no track prep expert, and have never claimed to be one. My only question which I hope I can get an educated answer (wish me luck) for on here is as follows.

When you have 10 or so push trucks on the property, and wheel packing needs to be completed, why wait for such a long time to get these vehicles on the track to aid in this process.

Please serious responses only from those in the know.

I thought the race was a excellent race to silence all of the nay-sayers in advance.

Good points, Bob! Concerning wheel packing, does anyone know why they run the vehicles clockwise during the initial wheel packing process? I've asked several people, but no one knows.

I have always wondered about that myself. Great night of racing and I was impressed by the turnout and the love showed to the Burton family.

In recent history, Bloomington has been a track that when it blacked up, a track rework was never done. Ever. Now, you've got a young track prep guy there that is learning (and improving) and will do that on certain occasions. Last night, he was getting advice from one of the best track reworkers ever (a great learning opportunity), you ended up seeing a great race and you STILL think they owe you some kind of explanation? Thanks for providing with a little laugh before I get ready to go to my next race.

Good question, as soon as you water a slick track you wanna wait a while so it will soak in....pack trucks will only make a mess....gotta give it some time and then run it in.....it's a very tough decision how much water and how long do you wait.....it's no fun at all...and then a lot of times it goes back to the way it was a few laps after the rework if your not patient enough and let it soak in some.....I am speaking for myself, not 100% sure that's the case elsewhere.

Mr. Shaw, I guess I would fit into the second guesser group. However, I still believe the cars could have been brought out sooner and had the same result. Yes. Great race.

I not going to venture into the discussion of whether they should or should not have reworked the track, or debate the methods and the time delay.

But here are some interesting facts. While standing in the infield during the heats, I whipped out my trusty timepiece, and clocked the fastest lap by a heat winner at 13.95 by Jeff Bland and the others were in the mid and low 14:00 second ranges.

After the rework, I got Clayton on the clock with several laps in the mid to low 11:00's and one lap at at exactly 11:00 flat! He was gasin' it up!

After seeing that time I put my stupid stopwatch back in my pocket and enjoyed the show!

I also want to say THANK YOU to each and every person that showed up to support the Burton family, even those that left early. I know for a fact Jerry and Darlene were very pleased at the showing of love and support.

I am also pretty damn sure Josh Burton would have loved that hammer down feature that we all enjoyed in his honor.
