IndyCar racing is a business! It stopped being a hobby or a "gentleman's sport" years ago (IMO in the 70's). As a business, the most important thing is the bottom line. Look at what happens in most nonracing businesses today. People are NOT a resource...they are a commodity. While I don't agree with what has happened this week at Indy, I certainly understand why it has happened, and I agree, it has been happening for years. It just usually doen't invovle high profgile owners like these.
What is sad is that we are seeing the same thing happening at the local short tracks. Drivers like Dave Darland, Jerry Coons Jr., Tracy Hines, et al lose rides because of money, not because they lack talent. Like it or not (and I don't) we cannot go back to the glory days of the 60's and 70's. We can support our sport and try to influence its direction with our voices, our wallets and our hearts.
