The new 1000cc motors are not usable??? Is that now or in the future? Has anyone else heard this? Are all the motorcycle manufactures letting the mini sprint world in on their company secrets?

I have never heard anything like this, these sound like scare tactics to me to get people to buy something they don't need. (By the way my computer is Y2K compatable so it won't come alive and kill me while I type this).

My thought is that this could only divide the mini sprints and weaken the orginizations not just in one area but all over. And I'm sure that someone is looking to line their pockets along the way.

I have the newest 1000cc Yamaha engine you can buy, converted it to Engler Mechanical Fuel Injection... New motor, all wiring, all injection... Still cheaper than what this cost.. It's ran 2 races and is doing well.


Besides that the engine looks heavy... Put that thing in a standard minisprint, and see his long a frame last.. Someone mentioned hayabusa engines the other day.... I also say no... ! What ever engine the japs make the most of is what we need... And right now its 1000's.

You know I have been sitting around pounding my two pointer fingers to the bone over this idea of motor change for our particular class of Midget Race car that being Mini-Sprints.

It sure beats sitting around an old meeting room in a Holiday Inn in October listening to all the pro's and con's of what we should do or what we should not do depending on how it will affect us in particular and to heck with the other racers. Kind of like the weight thing we fought with so long ago, we are almost there on weight but it was like pulling teeth.

We cry about change and what will happen to the class.

Well a forward thinking guy by the name of Harold Hunter up in Montpelier Indiana with the help of another guy named Brian McEvoy is already doing the experiment, and it is showing a lot of promise.

They are hosting a series of races for Midget race car being either 4 cylinder automotive powered shaft drive or motorcycle powered chain drive cars. To them they are all Midget race cars, some just a little better endowed HP wise than others. Do you know what? 1000cc midgets do quite well in this setting.

Ask Lynsey Tilton. These are full size midgets not quite USAC stuff but all the same they are full Midgets. If it wasn't such a long hall for us we would be up there running with them.

Now> they might see the potential of such a group and start a circuit that traveled a little further south into Indiana and pick up a larger car count and be quite successful. Watch out mini sprinters. we might be going wingless.

That's fine go wingless with this mini sprint. Oh wait they already have those they're called midgets. Exactly the same car as we are talking about but without the wing.

There is a series in northwest IN northeast IL called the Illini midgets where they are all older cars and motors and have regulations to make it fair and competitive for all kinds of motors including the focus. They race on pavement and dirt with the same tires. If you want to run a cheaper midget then that would be the place to go.

See there's a spot for this car instead of trying to turn an entire class upside down.

It's good when you get a reaction. We (our family) have been racing these danged little cars since the early 90's. My son has been my driver, and I like somebody's wife on one of these threads too love wings. I feel much safer when he has that wing over his head, it is still not as safe as BINGO but I know that wing helps take a lot of the energy out of them flips.

If we don't explore other options some day we might be out in the cold looking in.

We can have these talks over the internet sitting at our computer or in some old meeting room at a Motel out in the middle of nowhere. Thank God we in Indiana are controlled by a several benevolent dictators. We can talk and talk until we are blue in the face, They may listen some but when it comes time to make the call they do it on their own for what they think is the best of the sport. We can throw this stuff out but remember we don't make the call, all we do is say "what if".

Here we go with the wings being safer when you crash, your strapped into a car with a firesuit and roll cage. The talk of a wing as a safety device is stupid. The reason theres no nonwing minisprint racing around here is a couple of the promotors bought into this bull*@%&. Yeah in a perfect situation it might cushion you some, but your also going faster with a wing to begin with. If your scared you or someone you like might get hurt because they have no wing your in the wrong sport. What is best for the sport is for people not to whine about the cars not being safe without a crutch, aka wing.

Bob... I disagree with you... Have you ever seen the tubing thickness of the hench and some older ERC and Bailey cars?..Not to thick!...These cars are NOT safe without a wing... I can say i ran non wing once and had a blast truthfully... But after seeing the destruction it can cause flipping non wing id prob. not do it again in my Bailey... The 1 and only time our club did it one guy flipped his bailey about 9 times outa the park and the end result was a bent and destroyed chassis with cracked and bent bars every where 2 black eyes, concussion and a aneurysm in the poor guy... 1 other car was re stubbed after that race and another needed minor repairs to replace a few bent tubes from flipping...The wings slows dont momentum fast and helps a lot in a flip... BELIEVE IT OR NOT...

Run a wing if you like it but to stamp a unsafe on unwinged cars is bull. If a guy flipped 9 times outta the park and thats all he got, he's lucky no matter what he was trying to drive. I guess I'm just used to racing where injuries are the norm, and guys and the gals dont dwell on it or even give it much thought. All you guys that state nonwinged cars are unsafe are doing damage to our sport. I miss when racers were a bit more tough. Maybe DAD outta get that bingo league started.
