This is bound to be a positive for open wheel racing. And what is wrong with using fuel strategy to win a race? Jimmy Johnson crossed the finish line at Phoenix at a snails pace in a fuel strategy win. Many drivers use strategy other than simply going flat out all the time to win. NASCAR driver Fred Lorenzen won many victories by pacing himself, thus conserving his car and fuel. David Pearson, one of my all time favorite drivers, earned the nickname "The Silver Fox" by his strategic driving tactics. Many great drivers have won races by placing themselves in a position to take advantage of any opportunity that might present itself.
Danica and her crew had the best strategy for this particular race, so they deserved to win.

Her sponsorship has nothing at all to do with profesionalism, or talent it is simply due to the fact that she is marketable because she is an attractive female in a male dominated sport.

Does she have talent?
Yes

Is she good for the IRL?
Yes

Did last years Japan winner get this much press?
No

If she was male would she have the ride she does?
No

If she was male would they have put up with her attitude to this point?
Not a chance

Is it good for someone to show emotion in victory lane?
Yes but she was not emotional she was hystical and could barely speak. Take an extra lap to get ahold of yourself if you need it . She almost seemed as suprized as anyone that she won

Act like you have been there before

Every year she gets more press after the 500 then the winner gets.

I do not see the drivers as male, females, American, Foreginers, white, black, yellow or green. I only judge them for how they conduct themselves and how they preform.


Danica is in the same league as Dale Jr. they may have a good run every now but they are not consistant enough from week to week to be a constant front runner. However they will always be a fan favorite and never lack sponsorship due to their actions off of the track

OK so everybody is saying the only reason she won was fuel mileage? If I'm not mistaken she was in the top 8 all day, stayed out of trouble and ran a smart race. Also didn't Dario win the title last year because Dixon ran out of fuel going into 3 on the last lap

Exactly right. That's the first thing I thought of when she won. I knew that would be the first thing brought up by the haters.

I'm by far NOT a fan of hers. I think she whines and her attitude flat out sucks at times. A guy throws some of the temper tantrums she has, he's out on his ass. I've seen some 2 year olds act more grown up than she has at times. However, she won the race. Fuel can play a part and did in this case. I have nothing against her (meaning if a girl won every race so be it) other than I think she could grow up a little bit when dealing with bad luck. Every driver goes through it and the good ones deal with it. Maybe a win will do some good and she can deal with the bad better.

No she won because her and her team put her in position to win. Fuel mileage is a large part of many races.

I just do not think it is as big of a deal as they are making it.

I think Graham Rahal winning in St Pete in his first IRL race in a car he has never competed in on a circit he has never competed on becoming both the youngest driver in series history and they first transition team to win is a much bigger accomplishment when compaired to a fourth year driver getting their first win on a circit they have competed on and been competive on several times before

I'm not a fan of hers. The amount of coverage and hype she has received is silly compared to the results she has put up. However, she won and deserves the praise she is receiving. Fuel strategy is part of long races, if her team did it best, then good for them. I've seen races end under caution due to rain, end early because of time curfews and other things, but a win is a win. Congratulations Danica!

Fact is she won suck it up and deal with it.
Second the big deal is she was the FIRST WOMAN to win an Indy car event IN HISTORY. She made history reguardless of what you think of her history books will always read her name as a pioneer of racing next to Muldowney, Guthrie, St James , Croker and so on.

Graham Rahal didnt have the hurdles of sexist POS's like yourself. Big deal he won his first IRL race has happened before. In all honesty he him self is the biggest bag of hot air in open wheel racing today. Being Bobbys boy I would expect more then what we are getting but o well.
