OK..... I encourage everyone to do just that. There is an excellent website that has statistics on drivers.... Eckert's Open Wheel Times. I typed in the name Duke Cook.

http://www.openwheeltimes.com

Go to the Search Race Results. I encourage everyone to do it for themselves. However, here is the synopsis:

Total Races: 110 A Mains: 110 Wins: 1 Top 5: 17 Top 10: 43 Top 15: 67 Top 20: 89

There are your stats, Duke. I think they speak for themselves........

Speaking of cut in purse, why dose'nt Duke talk about his days as a promoter. More than few drivers came up short at the pay window.:moon::thumbsdown:

Good luck to HAR and Coondog in the Hunt!

P.S. This was made as a reply to a first page post. Is a honest question and honest best wishes. Reading the rest of the thread afterward. OH VEY!

Dean's claim to fame is that he is darned good at his chosen profession.
The guy I stooged for never ran 'stones on his sprinter, so I cannot comment on your abilities at your real profession. But I did go to a bunch of sprint and SC races "back then" and I can clearly recall that your abilities as a driver were never close to Dean's talents as a videographer. IIRC, your only real claim of success was quick time at a USAC event at Eldora once -- everyone thought the clocks broke.

I couldn't agree more with GPracing6 this has been hilarious. Dean, thanks for promoting the sport and allowing us to view the highlights. Have a safe trip west and we hope to see some highlights soon.

Not that it matters one bit in the grand scheme of this thread, but obviously Duke ran more than 110 races in his career, and certainly won more than one solitary feature.

Open Wheel Times is an amazing collection of information (and one that's growing, getting better and more accurate all the time -- there's absolutely nothing like it), but naturally it is riddled with holes. For example, my grandpa won over 100 features in his career, yet none of them appear in the database. Not because Kevin's work is sloppy by any means, but because it becomes increasingly difficult to gather statistics as you travel back in time as I've tried to do occasionally. And Kevin's not looking for just Ron Fisher's stats -- he's trying to catalog every pertinent sprint car race ever run.

Quite an undertaking, indeed.

It's a shame that a little more respect isn't given here to Duke, weather you like him or not, he ran Sprint Cars when it meant something to run a Sprint Car. I was there the night he won his only USAC race, and I admit I am not the biggest Duke Cook fan in the world but I was cheering for him as hard as I could when he passed Bigelow in the Armstrong mold car (on I think the last lap?) for the win. If you guys weren't around back then you have no idea what Sprint Car Racing was compared to today. There is no comparison! I think the deal with Rob Hoffman was supposed to be a joke and you all took it wrong. Take it easy on him he is part of the history of Sprint Car racing
