Very enjoyable evening of racing! The skirmish at the beginning basically ruined the evening for DD, so, his number one fan, (my wife, Earlene) was disappointed, but enjoyed her first trip to Lawrenceburg since the 2011 season. We arrived during the running of the second heat due to getting a late start because of dealing with some tripped circuit breakers at home and being delayed in traffic on I71.
My GPS has real time traffic, and the lady in the box warned me of a major traffic delay and tried to detour me while I was still west of Louisville, but I kept going. The voice in the box then told me to get off at Exit 44, to avoid the delay. I should have listened! Just after I passed the exit, the traffic came to a standstill. My GPS showed that there would be a 32 minute delay, and it was accurate.
The slowdown was caused by the right lane being closed in the area not from the Kentucky Speedway. No workers were present, but simply closing the right lane caused a backup several miles long. I will certainly listen to my GPS next time I come to Lawrenceburg.
I really hated missing hot laps and qualifying, but the feature race made up for some of my disappointment.
Wow! What a finish! Congrats to Kevin Thomas JR. Made some awesome passes at the end of the backstretch going into thru 3. He and Stockon were SO CLOSE several times but neither put a wheel wrong. Great stuff!
I just watched it on usacracing.tv. That was an unbelievable race!! The move that KT executed when he split Bacon and Gulick was the kind that almost makes you fall out of your seat, when you see something like that live. And the last couple of laps, after the restarts put a fitting end to this great race. Good job to the people of the Burg. That race was a classic! That was one of your best shot races, Dean. You captured it all.
