Im sick of gimmicks.

I haven't watched a complete Nascar Race in three years due to all the crap they are trying to ADD to racing.

Let the racing be the attraction!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Leave the cars, teams, drivers and fans alone and get the damn track ready...."if it ain't broke, fix it 'till it is"....can you say "trackprep". After reading Hubies post #45, I guess the track surface is already broke. We'll pass and catch a red clay show at Bloomington with free parking and a twelve dollar gate. Votin' with our dollars. You bet!

Next thing you know they will want us to put wings on them.

My vote, water the track so they can race and not run the bottom all night.

Don't red flag it.
That was the year we built a lawn jockey in the corner of our pit stall with all the mud we scraped off the car after practice. Actually, it looked more like Chet from "Weird Science" than a jockey!

The Indiana State Fair Mile surface is totally junk. It is nothing but sand that will not accept a racecar but are fine for horses. Horses rule the roost at the Indiana Fairgrounds.

The late great Larry Rice had a proposal to repair this track and it's racing surface a couple of years ago, and the price was over a million dollars. Digging the turns out and the exits onto the straights, to be replaced with quality base and CLAY.

The horse people did not want to hear it

That being said, the horrible weather and the promoters complete lack of apathy towards the refunding of money, not to mention the horrible track (even when King AJ was promoting) means I give this a pass every year.

The promoter is Bob Sargent and Track Enterprises from over in Illinois, right? Where's a promoter from Indiana to do this race anyway? But that's not my point

Obviously they are trying to do something, whether you agree with it or not, to increase fan excitement and attendance to the event. That tells me that Track Enterprises is not doing well enough with the Hoosier 100 as it is in terms of attendance and profitability.

So maybe they are trying some things (adding the mods, 51 red flag) to get more fans in the stands TO ACTUALLY KEEP THE RACE HAPPENING.

I'd rather have a Hoosier 100 gimmicked a bit than no Hoosier 100 at all.

This is the rumor coming true. Also heard that it was Toyota that was also involved in this decision. Why????? you may ask. because they have a lot invested in SC. And USAC is addicted to whatever $$$$$ and trucks etc. that Toyota sends their way. There is no doubt that the Toyotas make more power than just about anything out there. They have to turn there rpm's way up there to get this power and with mechanical fuel injection no matter what the power is when rpms go up so does fuel comsumption. And the toyotas simply struggle to make 100miles of geen flag racing without a fuel stop no matter what. And so do a lot of other hi powerd cars. With the extra power it's also hard on tires as well, then your going to give them the opportunity to put fresh rubber on???? If you want stop the race halfway but no fuel to be added or tires either ok then. Add fuel and tires only if an open red occurs in either segment. If it is truely for fan appeal there will be no argument from anybody.
Who wants to limit rpm's in midget competion and why. I have no idea.

This is the dumbest idea I have heard of! The races are 100 miles not not 2 50 mile segments.....that is what makes the SC cars so great. It is different for fans and drivers in dirt racing. Leave it alone and WORK THE DANG TRACK so there can be side by side racing all night long.

I have been to Du Quoin the last 3-4 races but if they do this I more than likely will go watch the ARCA race instead....(don't shoot me Sprints guys.....but to me an ARCA race without the B/S is better than a SC with all the BS it can handle and more!

I don't like this idea.
I'm old, set in my ways, want traditions left alone (except safety things).
They could always take a page from the tin-top book:
a) hook a school bus behind each Silver Crown car
or
b) have the drivers all jump out of the cars on lap 51, eat a hot dog, and then finish the race (the crew who made the best changes during their driver's brief lunch break would then advance to the NASCAR pit stop competition on Speed Channel

safe to say no 100 mile record then. the track is junk compared to what i remember in the 70's and 80's. Twin 50's only if they must stop half way. pay 2 winners. then they should run the Hoosier Hundred this coming September.
