Just a thought: five classes of cars may be stretching the limits if there is any downtime, and, as I said above, there was a lot of it last night.
I do agree the downtime was a bit much. In the past, running all 5 classes did usually did run anywhere from 11:30 to 1:30 completion depending on car counts, cautions, and reds/delays. Why they didn't start fixing the track (which should of been done after hotlaps in the first place) sooner is unknown. Given the time the red took for the SS Flip they could of made just enough or very close to enough passes to smooth the track out a bit more than it was. I know the conditions were argued ad-nauseum earlier, but it was a combination of both the nearly endless rain here in Indiana and just simply missing the mark on prep that led to the rough conditions. It did rain late Thursday night/Friday Morning too after all. No one is perfect, every track will miss the mark once or twice during the season.
I'm all for running double-features and what not as well...but let's not run all 5 classes on those nights. However, given what car counts have been too lately they probably weren't expecting the largest turnout of cars in some time. And not just for the hornets either. The rain as well kinda snuck up quicker than expected too. As even I wasn't expecting it to even rain until around 4-6am or so. Still, they'd have to have a quickly ran and near flawless night to even get done by 12:30 running all 5 classes and the extra feature.
It wasn't helping matters either that a lot of the latter cautions were involving cars getting utterly stuck together, taking a good 10-15 to get them unstuck. One in the Sprint Feature and the horridly long one in the Mod Feature. While the Hornets were literally knocking the bumpers off their cars....several times.
