That's easy to say if you're not the person in the car or the guy that owns all the equipment.

The truth is, there is little room for error at L-Burg and if you end up off the track you are going to do some serious damage when you hit that wall.

I see a number of people on here defending the current track configuration......I have one simple question, if it's so good why are car counts getting smaller and smaller?

Waynesfield is getting 25+ Mini Sprints weekly.....the last time we were at L-Burg (rained out) I think there were 14, and there were less than 20 sprints.

The car counts don't lie, something is going on.

You saw my crash as well as everyone else there that night. If the same thing would have broke at the old Burg, Waynesfield, Bloomington, or any of the other tracks we race on the impact would have been a lot less or I would have been able to get the car spun around. Going 100+ Mph and wrecking like that makes it unable for low-buck racers to justify coming back to the place, no matter if you have a sprint, modified or mini-sprint. Hell last year I saw a mod flip on its own without hitting anything; just hit a hole in the track... that shouldn't happen. We won't be back to Lawrenceburg until they do something to change the track.

One of the worst crashes I remember witnessing up close and personal was about 6 or so years ago when Larry Beck had his throttle stick on his car. He was about 10 or so feet from taking a header into the pit grandstand wall right in front of me. And he was still going at a good clip when he hit at about a 30 - 40 degree angle. There wasn't a straight piece of metal on that car and Larry was a little loopy the rest of the time there.. This was on the old 1/4 mile configuration. I could be wrong but I'm thinking some of that car may have been salvagible if he did it on the 3/8ths track.

The worst car count I've seen this year was when the 'burg had 14 car. There was five sprint car races that very same night in the Ohio-Indiana wingless region. If memory serves me correct two other tracks had less than 20 cars that same evening.

I will be at the 'burg tonight without a doubt.

well phylo i can see your point for the mini sprints. they do put on an awful show at the new track compared to the old. it's like a mile to a sprintcar. some people act like the burg is a mile. or two....

I'd like to know why you think car counts are so low at L-Burg. If the track is so good why are car counts so bad?

Only 21 sprints tonight at L-Burg and the payout was good. 33 sprints tonight at Waynesfield.

And yes.....the track size at L-Burg is really not suited to Mini Sprints. Although we saw this evening they turn some serious laptimes.

We love going to L-Burg.....my kid has run really well there and it's only 15 minutes from home. We have a vested interest in seeing the track be successful. My concern is it's going to turn into a stock car track if fewer and fewer sprint are willing to run there.

I'm sure the new track configuration has impacted car counts, especially for the modifieds, but I believe that impact has been relatively minor. My guess; < 5 sprint cars per week.

IMO, the only way to significantly increase 'Burg pit population, in these days of sky high petrol prices, and stronger competition for cars from other Saturday night tracks (see Putnamville, post Allison) might be to move the the Lawrenceburg Speedway to Shelbyville or some other spot within 15 miles of I-465.

Otherwise many Gas City and Kokomo regulars are going to opt for Waynesfield on Sat. nite while Indy and west central IN racers will understandably continue to go for the much shorter tow to LPS. It remains to be seen what will take place at Paragon.

JMHO....they don't shoot you for that here now.....or do they?

well marv said fuel costs and that probably is a big thing since most of the cars come from the indy area. how many guys can you name from the greater cincinnati area that have run off somewhere besides burdette? the pull from this area has sucked since the 90's or more. a lot of people have just retired like the law bros., rodney stone and so on. i forgot to mention vaughn, he now runs put. as for the mods there have been two new tracks built in the greater cincy area that took some cars away. now that put. has bumped up the purse it's going to get even harder to get cars. phylo, did you say you were going to put your boy in a sprintcar?

They don't need to move the track or re-cut the track yet...but I would suggest they don't prep the top 30 foot of track and should prep down to within 10 ft. of the lights in the corners. Keep the cars closer to the bottom of the track and give them the top of the track for run off and landing zone if there is ...and there will be a flip. Leave the straightaways alone...I will say I thought the track looked great last night for the Gaines and the track crew did a great job but again that was a brutal hit by Memmer going in to three.....If there was just some run off room to slow it down I think this would help....
