Hi Don,

Glad to see your not talking about tires anymore. The Super Modified/Sprint Car debate was settled at Toledo when ISMA and AVSS started running there together over 10 years ago. A Super was faster by a tick 1 year, but overall the Sprints are faster. They are lighter and able to run wide open all the way around the track. Both groups racing together would be a real treat, Toledo is the perfect track. No tire rules please.

Jonesy, Vogler's best finish in the Miller car against the supers was 2nd place. I also saw old man Whited finish second at Salem in Hodson's old upright Leffler car , against supers. If he had sprung for a new tire before the Salem feature he'd of won that one.

Toledo , schmeldo, tough to pass on. Put these guys at a place like Raceway Park in Indy for the challenge. Room to race , and room to pass. No rules though, run what you brung, and hope you brung enough.

The Question was why not run open tires. good question to ask also
all the tracks and series that dont allow any tire but hoosiers. If I
had a choice and I buy both tires. I would always chose the ART
tires. In 2010 we ran and broke lots of track records with Hoosiers
at MSR. But than came 2011 and 2012 and all those track records
set by Hoosiers we broken back by ART. The Hoosiers are good for
one lap and they start to slow down drastically. We can run track
record speeds the entire race with ART tires. you dont ever pace
yourself and save your tires with ART. When we did Bristol deal
we used 1 set of tires for 2 days. Tony Stewart with Clauson
and the Two Supers we putting on new Hoosiers after ever other
test session. anyone want the video I have it.
Suellen Wilshe

If Hoosiers are faster qualifiers than why hasnt AVSS or HOSS
beaten any ART track records on the common tracks we race?

Hoosiers being faster is just Marketing Hype from Hooiser.

My question is..how are tires gonna help you break records? Tires do play a part in it but I could of swore a good motor helped a lot?

IMO ART makes the best sprint car tires available. I've had more success on dirt with ART's over a quarter century of driving. I was at LORP for MSRXSS and none of the cars performance fell off due to RR tire wearing out from what I saw. Many times that I ran a winged pavement sprint car we'd qualify real good with a new Hoosier but way too many times the RR didn't hold the performance we expected for the feature. I Set an old track record at Plymouth in 2002 driving it like I was on dirt so maybe I was just a little hard on RR's LOL!

Both groups racing together would be a real treat, some one posted in an earlier reply. I raced Mike Blake's sprint car at Baer Field for an MSA supermodified race and the turbulance/aerodynamics was very different(weird)trying to race against the supers with their wings lower. Also keep in mind that winged pavement sprint cars race/handle differently in a pack vs. by yourself qualifying because of turbulence and aero.

Any truth to the rumor that Don Wilshe is gonna purchase IndyCar and mandate the American Racer Tire for all events?

(....overheard at Suellen's beauty shop the other day....)

I know my opinion probably won't be popular, but that never stopped me before, so here goes... My impression is that tire rules are for promoters and series who want a kickback in their own back pocket. If ART's are truly better, then teams will choose them. If Hoosiers are better, then teams will choose them. Tires are something that the teams should choose, not the sanctioning body or the track. Teams want to go fast and they want to win. Teams will choose what is best for them to meet their goal of winning. If teams were getting a highly-discounted group rate, it would be one thing. I don't know of any series with a mandated tire rule that offered significant discounts, mostly because the tire manufacturer doesn't have any competition. Usually the opposite is true. Nice gig if you can get it!

It's interesting to note that the new BOSS series wingless sprints does not have a tire rule. I applaud their efforts in this regard.

Hi Don,

The solution seems very simple, allow Hoosier tires to run in Must See races. I have a good feeling AVSS would change and allow American Racer tires. No more debate.

also heard he was gonna then ask for people to pick up the car's and drop them off at each race around the country
