I never knew Petey. Wished I would have met him.
From everyone's comments a great friend of the 21 team. RIP Petey! Best Regards, John |

One memory I have of Petey was from I think 2007. It was early in the year. In the previous year, Stanbrough had won a ton of races and had been the National Driver of the Year. He was off to another great start and was already racking up a bunch of wins. This was back in the time period that Jon was just an absolute machine. We were all at Haubstadt and most of the buzz was about Jon. The majority of the people were picking him to win, on this day. Before the races, we were all gathered in the lot, like usual and Petey came walking up. He had been in the pits and had been talking to Daron. He said "Daron says he ain't gonna lose to Stanbrough today." I said "really?". Petey then gets this evil little grin on his face and says "Take my word for it, he ain't gonna lose to him today. No matter what."
The rest is history. We're still talking about the war those two waged and sheer will to win that both of those drivers displayed, on that day. Those that were there know exactly what I'm talking about. Jon drove great enough to beat anybody that day. Except Daron. It was literally one of the greatest sprint car races I've ever seen. Other than Shelley and his family, DC no doubt lost his single biggest fan, when Petey was lost. Jerry

Honestly, I didn't know who this thread was referring to until I seen a picture posted on FB of Petey.
Talked with him several times and it is indeed a sad loss. Thoughts and prayers to all the family and friends

Some may not know this but Petey lived less than 20 miles form both Daron and Hunter when they were growing up. Petey in Dexter, MO, and Daron and Hunter in Sikeston, MO. Petey was a huge fan of most drivers...he just flat out loved racing. I am sure he and the "Rocket Man" have been talking about racing already. Rest in Peace Petey.
