The big box business model that is being followed is killing midget racing. Again, this is not USAC's fault. Blame all the followers that have no personality of their own.

And, there has been a steady increase over the past five years. The exact same years several big dollar teams have entered the picture. You know, the ones that are supposedly KILLING the sport. It is just amazing that an owner that is so "inactive" on the track, complains so much ... and yes, it is COMPLAINING no matter how you try to spin it. If you can't change and evolve with the sport, maybe it is time to find a new hobby. Joe Shockley |

I don't know where all these midget races are that ur talking about???????
Probably the most famous midget track in the world is Sun Prairie. They've had a 50% decline in participants since 1999. Since you seem to be the latest advice man on IOW, you may want to spread ur wisdom up there and help em out. Try telling those people that midget racing is healthier than ever and see what kind of reaction you get. |

Sure, Sun Prairie may be down in the car count over the past few years, but they are only one of the dozen or so midget organizations out there. I am talking midget racing as a whole, not one group.
POWRi didn't even exist a few years ago and they are a very strong group ... ARDC also has good car counts that are in the 30's. How can this be if the sport is so obviously dying as you would have us believe? As far as "all the races" that you have no idea are occurring, maybe you should talk to the guys that keep the stats. Or, maybe follow the sport a little more closely. ... 226 events last year ... the most since that websites has been keeping stats (1999). As far as helping Badger, I am not the one who claims to have all the solutions for the dying sport of midget racing. |

You can really looka *** this way: Sinres and Brown left MARA and started POWRi. POWRi was a still is a business. MARA and pretty much everyone else is a club (or calls themselves a club). When POWRi formed, most (not all) who were in MARA left and joined POWRi. MARA folded a year later. I am not bashing POWRi or MARA. POWRi is a great organization and they have built a very good national midget division. |

Don I just don't see why you continue with this thread. Is XXXX organization holding a gun to your head forcing you to write a check for $XXX.XX? No they are not. So why do you let it bother you so much? Here is an idea, wait for your stimulous check and use that to join XXXXX Organization.
Additionally, why is it that XXXX Organization has a tire deal and because Kevin Miller....oooops.....the President of XXXX Organization doesn't include you on the contract negotiations it's now a deep dark secret. I don't get it? Am I keeping a deep dark secret from you because you don't know the balance of my check book? No I am not. The fact you aren't in the loop of the purple brands contract with XXXX organization isn't because it's a deep dark secret, it's more on the lines of it's none of your business, and it's especially none of your business if you don't cough up $XXX.XX to join XXXX organization. Ok.Im going to try my hand at this again.First,I will say,do I agree with Don most of the time? No.But there are thing's I do agree with.Im 35 now.On Feb. 1st.When I was a kid there was midget races everywhere with good car counts. With that being said, time has evolved and so has the cost.I agree if you cant afford it dont try it.I raced micro's for 3 years and now Im going to run maybe 6 races because I cant afford it and a family to.Nobodys fault but mine becuse I dont have a good enough job to afford it.Keep that in mind.We are in the same boat as Don.No sponsors just out of pocket. We do have a little tire deal with the "purple tire group" which we didnt even know about till last year. But,we half to buy at least 10 tires a year.Which at the end of last year we bought 6-7 left and right rear's.Not the softest (10) because we couldnt afford to burn them up in one race evening but we bought 15's.And one 20 I believe. So this year both track's went to a 40 durometer right rear which would be a 25 hoosier (and sometimes thats not safe) so a 30 to be safe.We can use the left rears we bought last year but the rights seem to be out.Unless we travel maybe to Illinois or Michigan,Kentucky.Or there may be Salem or Linton in Southern Indiana Im not aware of there rules yet.But Linton runs on friday night. So I would half to leave work by 11 or noon to make it.That is why we havent went yet.I however do believe that there is alot of people that cant be on the usac midget or sprint car schedule.Should they change it.No.The ones that can do it do it and I have no complaints because I go watch them.Should they be cheaper than sprint cars since they are the "stepping stone".Dont know. That is a matter of opinion. So since Ive did all this typing as well as everyone else what do you believe the answer is?Can you take a sealed motor like the focus series and put spec tires on the right rear that are marked for each night?Or do you just run what shows you can afford to run and let all the race teams that can afford to run, run.I personally just go with running the shows I can and the rest of the time drink beer and eat hot dogs with everyone else.It isnt going to change over one person.Or even 6 people.Racing will be racing, its never been real cheap and never will be.So it will be the way it is or someone will start a poor mans racing series.Either way,Ill still be a race fan.
